n 1925 the Department of Water and Power (DWP) was established and the voters of Los Angeles approved a $2 million bond issue to perform the engineering for the Colorado River Aqueduct. The DWP brought the cities of the region together with Los Angeles in 1928 to form a state special district. An act of the State Legislature created the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD). Its original purpose was to construct the Colorado River Aqueduct to supply supplemental water to Southern California. In 1931, voters approved a $220 million bond issue for construction, and work began on the ten-year project that would bring the water 300 miles to the coast.

Part of the success of the project was the spectacular Boulder Canyon project, now known as Hoover Dam. The DWP, manager of its own hydroelectric power facilities along the Los Angeles Aqueduct, was instrumental in the struggle to gain federal approval for the project which combined flood control, water supply, and energy production for the three states that form the lower Colorado River basin.

Thanks for the information. Off the Colorado river out of Nevada at the border between the states south of Hoover(my ‘thereabouts’). Weak though it is, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! :0)

thackney thanks for your comments. Most posts appearing are not productive and negative. California is in a very serious drought condition. Some areas do not have have water even for basic needs. Their is a way to get water for emergency drought areas....Water by Rail

Water by Rail (WBR) is not going to solve all of Ca’s drought conditions, but it could bring emergency relief to some of CA’s hardest hit drought areas. Water can be moved in DOT 111 rail cars from water sources located in Oregon.
Each rail car is capable of transporting up to 32,000 gal of water and 100 cars 3,2 million gallons or roughly 10 cubic acre feet of water.

Water by rail is an emergency/relief-based operation capable of only limited impact. WBR it’s nothing new. In the past, this method has been used to combat drought situations in Australia, Israel, India, and even Illinois.

What must be done? Contact your local governmental officials, set up meetings.

How about a “WATER BULLET TRAIN FOR CALIFORNIA!” Got that Governor!
