The opening credits of the new Netflix comedy (maybe comedy-drama) Grace And Frankie lay out the show's high concept using the song "Stuck In The Middle With You" and a set of wedding cake toppers. You see two couples, then two couples with kids, then the husbands kissing, then the abandoned women falling through the broken cake.
....two women with a tense acquaintanceship who find out that their husbands played by Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen! have been in love with each other for decades and want to take advantage of the age of same-sex marriage by getting married at last. So that'll be two divorces, no waiting.

And this is entertainment. Sad.
It is propaganda disguised as entertainment. So is "Glee", so is "Modern Family", "SOAP", "Three's Company", "the Birdcage", and so on.
My hatred of Sheen aside, I nixed any potential viewing of this series solely based on the participation in it by that bitch Jane Fonda. It already has my “not interested” tag on it.
..Hanoi Jane as one of the wives..
I confess I liked Soap. It was quirky and actually funny. Unfortunately, as shows like that gain acceptance, more of them are produced so that now we are bombarded with them — all in an effort to compel us to accept sin as normal and natural behavior. Brainwashing at its finest.
The Birdcage was actually entertaining and pretty true to life. I grew up with a gay man and most gay shows are just cheap laughs from stereotypes.
Three’s Company did not have a homosexual in it. He was pretending.
These stories are becoming very common in real life, too.
Slightly off-topic, but does anyone else hear “Stuck in the Middle With You” and immediately think of the torture scene in Reservoir Dogs?
I thought The Birdcage was smarmy, unfunny and stereotypical to the nth degree...hated it, and it had nothing to do with homosexuals. YMMV
“It is propaganda disguised as entertainment”
Exactly! Now I know why my father was so aggravated with “All in the Family” way back. And I just saw a commercial for a new reality series on ABC Family about a teenage boy & girl who both have fathers “becoming women”. The snippet seemed to say the girl was “ok with it” but the young man was having problems ( and rightly so in my opinion).
I saw this being offered on Netflix last night. I laughed and laughed. It would almost be worth watching to see Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston playing homosexuals. I would find comedic value weren’t wasn’t intended. But then there’s that whole Jane Fonda thing. So, not interested.
I won’t ever watch it and I do have Netflix....mostly for House of Cards but they have other good stuff for sure. This tripe I won’t watch mainly because of Jane Fonda who I despise and it is partly Vietnam but it is also her big mouth and extreme liberal views.
I guess it says something about the state of the culture that I would be more offended by Jane Fonda in any role than by Martin Sheen playing a homosexual.
SOAP was great comedy. Granted I was a kid when it ran and some stuff was above my head.
The physical comedy and writing I got most of and loved it.
I did too. Aside from the homosexual character (who they showed having drug, suicide, and mental stability problems), the rest of the family’s dynamics was hysterical.
It didn’t seem agenda-driven. Just goofy.
The whole Jane Fonda participation in the matter is the real turnoff, Hanoi and all...
My wife and I actually watched the whole series. You have to overlook Fonda’s past, but she looks pretty good for 77 years old and played her part well.
The show was mildly entertaining. I didn’t think that the portrayal of the two homosexuals was very sympathetic. They came off as two goofballs and were made fun of. Watching them kiss was a little painful.
"A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down." Of course they intend to make it entertaining. How better to get it to spread and take root?
