Before Jaquise Lewis lost his life defending his friends from an act of racist white mob violence, he was universally loved and admired.
Fun to be around, said one relative. Never got into any trouble, his aunt remembered. One after another, they lined up to tell the Albuquerque reporters the story of how Jaquise was in the “wrong place at the wrong time.”

“Six other people were shot,” said another reporter at KOB. “And understandably people were upset.” The sanctification continued with a report from the scene of the memorial: “Jaquise was well loved,” said the somber reporter Ryan Luby. “And the shooters were still at large.”

Then last week, with the help of video, the story… evolved. There was no birthday party.
Jaquise and his friends went to the park to create havoc and violence.
They stole a skateboard -- which the police spokesman dutifully reported by saying Jaquise and his friends “borrowed it” and became upset when the skaters asked for them to give it back.
There was no fight, as earlier accounts had it: Jaquise and his friends were assaulting the skaters. And they were surprised when one of the skaters actually defended himself.
And the shooter? Oh yeah, that was Jaquise.

In local media, there really wasn’t a racial component to this. Blacks are less than 3% of the population here.

It’s never a good time to pull a gun on someone else who is also packing.
Albuquerque isn't Baltimore, it's leftist but everyone still owns guns. What would be a safe endeavor in an eastern hellhole (Ganging up on, stealing from, and assaulting a smaller group of white kids) proved fatal for one of the black racist thugs. I doubt they would find a more hospitable environment in a full scale riot.
Certainly they have a CVS to burn down.

Yeah, I know very well how few ‘African- Americans” live in New Mexico, and how many in the general population are armed;
If anywhere in my post I gave the idea that I thought there would ACTUALLY be a huge race war between Blacks and Whites in NM; my apologies.
I was merely snarking at the MEDIA’S apparent desire to get one started.
As I didn’t see any of the local news reports when it happened, I have only the quoted American Thinker article as a reference.
It is if 1/2 to 60% of that 40% is too cowardly to fight back, or they are openly on the side of the three %. The cowardly half is even more effective when they are mixed in with those who would have been smart/brave enough to actually defend themselves otherwise, thereby neutralizing their effectiveness.
Still wide open down there.
