It looks the train takes 4 seconds to pass the camera. 7 car train at 85 feet per car works out to 90mph.

The speed limit on that curve is for 50 mph. That train on that video was doing well in excess of that speed.

Sure looked like it was over speed limit. Malfunction, operator incapacitated or distracted? We’ll find out.

He was hooked up that is for sure. Obviously way too fast for the curve.

Let’s see, pick one:

union driver
fell asleep
drinking
dope smoker
texting
sexting

and they will say the system is antiquated and needs to be modernized.

Closer to five seconds but still 80 mph.

You are correct sir! It will not matter if it was operator error; this will be the Republicans fault. I am already seeing comments that the republicans blocked infrastructure money the dems and Obama said were desperately needed. It will not be long before the dumbass republican leaders cave and start spending....

The Democrat Twitter squad is already flooding the Internet with "Blame the Republicans in Congress" stuff. SOP for them I guess.

When I was watching the live feeds of this incident last night, there was a mention that the Amtrak train was doing 85 mph.

Harder to spin with the video. One of the few advantages of constant surveillance.

Who cares? Republicans have about as much (or as little) do do with conservatism as the Dems do. Why does every news story degenerate into partisan comments about parties that are basically closer to chinese communism than they are to conservatism?

and they will say the system is antiquated and needs to be modernized.

That was the main topic on Morning Joe today. Why wait for an investigation to even get underway?

The speed limit on that curve is for 50 mph. That train on that video was doing well in excess of that speed.

The crash occurred at 9:23 PM. That train should have left 30th street station at 9:09 PM and then would have departed Trenton at 9:37 PM.

Not sure if that means it was running late, which might be cause for a little speeding en route.

I take the train quite a lot to Philadelphia and that area of the crash is never in 90mph range. In fact it is a fairly slow ride until the train is way north of the city.

Mayor Nutter (you can’t make this stuff up) said at the outset of the press conference (worthy of Gilbert and Sullivan operetta stuff):
We have a preliminary indication,
There is an ongoing investigation,
We won’t comment on the situation,
Until we have further information...

I was chortling the whole time, as I am always looking for bureaucratic aphorisms. I am seldom disappointed.
