I thought the correct term is “hanged” by the neck, nut “hung”.

You are correct. People are hanged, meat is hung, and threatening a sitting US Senator with either one is not particularly helpful to our cause.

Big difference in being “hung” and “hanged”.

Yep. It’s been “hanged” since Chaucer’s time: “An-hangèd by the nekke-bone.” Clothing can be hung on a hanger. And men can be said to be hung -— tho’ it’s widely considered vulgar to mention such things.
