Redhead banned from [U.K.] high school in England for being too ginger [natural hair color]

A redheaded high school student in England has been banned from classes for being too ginger, the devastated teen said.

Emily Reay, 17, of Cumbria, was scolded by teachers who told her she couldn't come back to the Trinity School in Carlisle until she gets rid of her natural bright auburn locks or "tones it down considerably," according to reports.

"I was very angry at first, and then burst into tears," she told The Telegraph. "I've had the same color for the past three years, and nobody at school has commented on it."

The burgeoning musician's hair, which has hints of orange, had been a "bone of contention" since the beginning of the school year, the news site said. It reportedly falls under the category of "unnatural" hair colors like blue or green.

But the Monday news still stunned the teen, who won an award for best hairstyle during prom.

True. The thing to me is , Why after 3 years is this suddenly an expelling offense? Me thinks there’s a muzzy on the school board.

OK ... those pictures leave me more inclined to go with “chemically enhanced”.

Yeah, the eyebrows. I missed that.

There is really no story here. The school is on solid ground.

Tell it to the Irish! All shades of red and auburn run in my family. Anybody here ever have a friend called carrot-top? This whole thing is ridiculous! Blue or green hair NO. Red hair, AYE!

Actually no it doesn’t. What she is saying is that she spent the last three years in that school and no one every said anything about the color of her hair. She is not saying that she has been dying her hair for the last 3 years.

I like red heads. I even married one. Now it is white.

Some people are just jealous. when I was in school I had a dark blond hair with very light strands in front. everyone accused me of bleaching that area, but it was natural. Now I have no hair there, an d no one is jealous.

By the way, that red headed girl is very pretty.

I have a Niece who has a Daughter around 9 whose red hair looks pretty much like that. Yes it is odd but it is natural.

Red hair runs in my family including my Daughter and Grandchildren.

She may be a natural redhead but not that shade. Look at her eyebrows.

She claims she’s had that hair color for three years. If it were natural she’d have had it for 17 years.

I don't know if it's natural or not. I was just giving you my perspective of my eyebrows not matching my hair color. And all of that IS natural.

If you read the article, you’d see she said she’s had that hair color for 3 months. Plus, it’s SO monochrome and so bright. It’s Lucille Ball bright! And for those of us who remember, she always made jokes about the fakeness of it.

You and I are on the same page here... I should have scrolled down before posting. I come from a family full of redheads, had a redheaded daughter in law, generations of them all over the place. I KNOW a ‘natural” red when I see it. She no doubt “enhanced” her natural red hair. She does have the freckles on her arms (maybe make up conceals those on her face?)

“That’s natural? You must be a guy”

I’m a guy. And that’s not natural. It’s orange.

I did read the article, and found this:

"I've had the same color for the past three years, and nobody at school has commented on it."

Three years, not three months.

Jus' sayin'. And if she's dying it (as #22 suggests), she's doing a better job than most bleach-blondes do of matching roots to locks.

The current theory is that this is a very old European prejudice dating to when most folks sporting ginger locks were Neanderthals, since the Neanderthal genome seems to code for red hair.

Seems like the historical prejudices against the Scots and Irish might have more to do with it. At least in parts of the U.K.

You have to understand. Priorities. This girl creates a danger to herself and others. The muslims on the other hand there enforcing Sharia in British schools, do not.

Priorities.

Blue or green hair NO

Why?

Darling Daughter (A natural blond and blue) had fire engine red, black, green, dandelion yellow and blue hair at one point or another during her high school career. No problem.

The one I liked best was black with blue highlights framing her face. Really made her eyes stand out.
