Poll: Most Bostonians Oppose Death Penalty for Marathon Bomber
UPI ^ | April 27, 2015 | Thor Benson

According to a new poll, most Boston and Massachusetts residents oppose the death penalty for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The Boston Globe poll found that fewer than 20 percent of Massachusetts residents supported the death penalty for the Boston Marathon bomber. Only 15 percent of Boston residents believe he should be executed. One-third of Massachusetts residents and one-quarter of Boston residents believe execution is typically appropriate for egregious crimes.

"It seems that voters have concluded that Tsarnaev does not deserve a quick death, but rather should spend the remainder of his days in a windowless cell contemplating the heinous acts that put him there," Frank Perullo, president of Sage Systems LLC, which conducted the poll, told the Globe. "To voters, it would seem death is too easy an escape."

Tsarnaev, 21, was found guilty on 30 counts for the 2013 bombing that killed three and injured 260. His defense team is fighting for a life sentence with no chance of parole, as opposed to a death sentence. He will only get the death sentence if all jurors agree on it.

The rationalisation that the pollster gives isn’t too far off: As a moslem terrorist, he WANTS a quick death; the better to meet his 72 virgins, &c.

Not sure where else to go with this; how about being drawn and quartered? Or some other gruesome form of death?

[Most MA] voters have concluded that Tsarnaev does not deserve a quick death, but rather should spend the remainder of his days in a windowless cell contemplating the heinous acts that put him there.

"Your pal has already started talking. You're staring life without parole in the face, kid. If you roll over on him, we'll let you plead down to the death penalty."

Said NO police interrogator or prosecutor to a capital murderer. EVER.

Good Lord, are all liberals this stupid, or is the claim that life without parole is worse than death just one of those lies they tell themselves so they can believe they're "tough" on criminals?

Nobody is offered a plea deal that pleads "down" to DEATH. Criminals know what they prefer, and it aint the needle.

If they befoul him with pig flesh he won’t get his 72 virgins.

So the saying goes.

Or if a woman executes him.

The People of the United States [and not The People of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, since this is a Federal Crime] deserve a speedy, public conclusion every bit as much as the defendant.

The trier-of-fact and of sentence has spoken. There's no need for medieval punishments. He just needs to be killed. Tomorrow. Next week maybe. But soon.

Sounds like William F. Buckley would withdraw his “phone book” comment were he alive today...

And "most" is a very low estimate...

Either living in big cities makes people crazy or crazy people are drawn to big cities. Or both.

Jefferson was right.

Anything propagated by that rag the Boston Globe is suspect.

There is no shame in that outfit when it comes to their agenda.

What you are seeing is the liberal mind in action. First, like petulent children, they arrive at the conclusion they want to arrive at, without any thought of the consequences -- in this case, they are opposed to the death penalty because it makes them feel noble, caring, and intelligent, and therefore arrive at the conclusion that Tsarnaev shouldn't be executed. Second, they come up with some flimsy justification for that position, that is also impossible to argue with -- in this case, the opinion that it is worse to be in prison than to be executed. Patently absurd, but also impossible to disprove. Third, should it come to that, they will defend their position, and their justification of it, as if it were the last piece of habitable land on earth -- regardless of how idiotic they sound, and despite the fact that they never really believe in their justification, just their conclusion. Finally, should it be necessary, or, just out of habit, they will label any other conclusion, especially any rational or well-thought out one, as evil in both intent and effect.

Excellent post. The sooner he is gone the better. I believe deep down it will be a relief to the victims.

Reports are that keeping a prisoner alive is cheaper than death penalty. How much more has this death penalty phase cost? Are they going to prove this by numerous appeals?

I could see where “most” who weren’t killed or maimed and mutilated wouldn’t want their boy getting the death penalty. He didn’t do anything to THEM.

I am oft times flippant, and this is one of those times. What the Bostonians think rates from me a big “So What?”
