Navy veteran is alive and well, despite what the government says

PARKTON, N.C. — Jeremy Walsh, a retired Navy petty officer second class, looks pretty good for a dead man.

He and his family chuckle about it now, but they are still working through a nightmare caused by a clerical error declaring his death that stopped his military pay and froze his bank account.

Walsh, 45, was declared deceased by Department of Veterans Affairs on March 25. The mistake snowballed when it was reported to the federal Social Security Administration, which stopped his pay and froze his bank account for weeks.

"It's been a trying time," Walsh said. "It's been frustrating."

Government stupidity is so frustrating on a daily basis...this must have been unreal?

He should re-declare for status of “undead”.

It’s to be expected. Government only hires the unemployable.
The only area where they are forced to hire competency is
the military. The rest are just a bunch of dolts who would
otherwise be on first tier welfare, the second tier being
government employment.

He should have taken advantage of being dead.

If he wanted
a fast track to being alive again he should have got in the car
and got a speeding ticket. Then let the court deal with it.

What the good Senator said. Call you Senator and/or Congressman immediately when something like this happens. They are more than happy to serve their constituents and they have the wherewithal to get the right people to work on correcting the problem.

Isn’t computerized banking great? The government can shutdown your financial life anytime it wants. Without court order. Seize and take whatever they want with civil forfeiture and you have no legal recourse. If this is not tyranny what is?

He's got a "Get Out Of Jail Free" card from the US Government. That trumps any city/state jurisdiction/laws.

“Jeremy Walsh, a retired Navy petty officer second class,”

E5 is a pretty low rank to be retiring at. I wonder if he had been court martial-ed or something.

Probably not. Sad to say making rank is much more difficult these days. Fewer Lifer Billets are available. Reduction in Forces & more to the point Fleet Reductions in actual number of active duty ships which began in the mid 1990's and has never been corrected. We are at the lowest point ever somewhere in the 280 range thereabouts. I had a cousin who was in AVIONICS in the Gulf War and he got out at six year mark because he didn't want to retire at E-5.
