In knocking door-to-door in IL city, burbs and downstate I found one consistent pattern. White women who are divorced and angry, who are sexually active with a boyfriend or someone not their husband see the government as their safety net.

White women in stable marriages (and widows of same) (and single chaste women who aspire to a stable marriage) see their extended family and voluntary associations as their safety net a la Alexis DeTouqeville.

One woman was not voting my way in the first couple elections when I knocked on her door. In a later election I knocked on her door and she told me that she had fallen in love (again) and was going to get married. Then she said: “I suppose I’ll have to start voting the other way now.” This is typical in the minds and self-identity of many women.

If I move from IL to WI its better if I just switch allegiances and not fight it.

Corn is meant for eating not for fuel.

Your experience in talking to voters is amazing. Keep up the good work. All we can do is try to shine the light. Women who are secure and who think things through understand that the government is Nobody’s safety net. Just look at the decimation of Black communities since the Great Society.

Asian language is the opposite of the Mexican language, which I see conservatives mention often.

I suspect there are many reasons involved in how Asians vote. In IL one major factor is that Asian (and Hispanic) businessmen feel like they are constantly harassed by local governments that are Republican. The health inspector, zoning inspector, tax collector often work for a Republican mayor.

Another reason is that the Republicans ask the ethnic businessmen for campaign donations and imply that it will get the inspectors off their back. But asking for money is the only time they see the Republican.

Another reason is lack of understanding of the ethnic culture. I’ll use Mexicans as the example. Most Mexican businessmen come from the PAN party of Mexico which is known in Mexico as the party of small businessmen and devout Catholics (It also has a few libertarian leaning types.)

Fox was a libertarian leaning PAN President of Mexico. Calderon was very much a social conservative PAN President of Mexico. But most Republicans (and freepers) are ignorant of this. They assume all Mexicans are alike. Furthermore these Republicans/Conservatives assume that all Mexicans including small businessmen are in the PRI party, which is the party of big government and corporatist corruption. They don’t even make a distinction between the PRI party and the very small PRD party, which is the party of the Occupy Wallstret types in Mexico.

The same divisions exist in India. Some Indians are one way, some are the other way. But Republicans/conservatives tend to assume they are all alike. People resent it when they are mis-labeled.

Yea, I’m about 90% convinced with this crop of Republican leaders that if a person put “Speaks Asian” on an application for an Asian outreach job, they’d count that as a plus.

More important than money, more important than values and issues is

friendliness. People vote for who seems friendly and their friend. All people vote this way. Numerous freepers vote for a candidate because he got schmoozed. This is even more true of those of Mexican ancestry than European ancestry.

If you want to lose votes, just present an image of being angry, unhappy, pessimistic, abrasive, unfriendly.

it should be fed to cows, or chickens

Actually it is. The corn mash, once fermented and filtered from the beer, is then fed to animals. It is actually a superior feed than the original corn.

The "beer" is then distilled to extract the ethanol.

So, could the average Cherokee or Lakota easily communicate with a typical tourist from India?
