Officials reveal TWO Philadelphia-area trains were 'shot at' within minutes of crash

Federal officials this weekend revealed the train that crashed Tuesday, killing 8, was one of two struck by objects that day.
Investigators are now looking into the possibility the doomed train's windshield was struck in the moments before the crash.
Amtrak, meanwhile, has been ordered to expand speed-restriction system in area of derailment in Philadelphia.
NTSB investigators, however, said Sunday that no communication from the train indicated it had been hit by an object.

EPTA, Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, said there's no indication the object that hit the commuter rail train is related to the Amtrak derailment.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter on Friday reports of an unknown projectile 'had nothing to do' with the deadly crash.

Amtrak’s got at least 8 wrongful death suits that are going to brought, plus more for those injured, somebody, a lot of somebodys actually, are going to be going over this man’s life with a fine toothed comb along with all the other aspects of the derailment. Will we learn about it? That I don’t know. I imagine he may face criminal charges over this.

Good photo!

The wipers are not even bent.

The left side of the engine (looking at the picture) is bent. The dashboard and some other stuff inside has been thrown forward.

Look at the pictures that are avalible of the train crash.

The next day pictures of the engine shows scratch marks, scrape make all down the side of that engine.

The frontal picture of that engine shows some heavy damage to the window pillor, and windshield.

Folks ? Look at the pictures of the passenger cars right behind that engine and you will see a badly mangled deformed bent up catenary line pole.

That damage to the front of that engine of train 188 is consistent of hitting that catenary line pole with the heavy damage to the window pillor and scrapes all down the side of the engine, with the copper electrical cables/lines hitting the windshield like a whip going 106 miles an hour.

They are lying to us to cover up something.

No projectile hit that train, the N.T.S.B.’s report as of today shows there was NO communications from that engineer that he reported on anything hitting that train.

The N.T.S.B’s report as of today shows that the Enginequeer’s story that his lawyer concocted is not holding water.

The N.T.S.B reported as of today that there was NO report of any projectile that hit that train in the tapes of the communications from the enginequeer to the dispatcher.

A rock crushed my windshield, directly in front of my face, while I was driving on a major freeway. It was a terrifying experience and I am grateful that I did not lose control of the car. There was glass everywhere and I was covered in shards. I could not see out of driver's side of the window but did manage to see well enough on the passenger's side to pull the car to a safe area.

If an object shattered the window of the train, it could have easily seriously distracted the engineer.

I will be curious to see what comes out in the investigation.

That damaged to the windshield is more consistent to damage it would receive from the cable electrical catenary copper lines like a whip hitting that windshield after the engine has hit one or two cantenary poles.

There is a picture in day light of the whole right side of the train receiving damage and scrapping of that one side.

There is heavy damage to the frontal window pillor.

Not sure how reliable the information is about the data recorder showed that the brakes were applied right before he went into the curve going 106 miles an hour.

If he was committing suicide he must have lost his nerve at the last moment.

All of this evidence proves it.

Need to get a criminal interigator to interview him A.S.A.P.

All of these signs of damage is consistent of the engine hitting one or two catneray poles.

There is pictures of the passenger cars right behind the engine with a mangled up, twisted, bent canteray pole.

That is what finally hit that greatly mangled up passenger car.

Those poles are made of heavy iron steel I beams embedded into concrete.

It would take a lot of force to move or even bend those catenray poles.

The damage on the windshield is consistent of the cabling of the elctrical copper catenray lines hitting it like a whip.

Someone is lying to us.

Your experience was vastly more terrifying than anything the engineer encountered prior to the derailing. Why the hell didn’t YOU immediately double your speed?

maybe he was struck in the head. and he either froze or pushed the accelerator while semi conscious. I had a window shot? out from ny car once and almost ran off a high embankment. Electric train engines are designed to accelerate quickly there are time tables.

I will say that I was completely rattled. I am grateful that I was calm enough to safely get the car off the road. Even thinking about it now gets the heart pumping.

But if (and that's a big if) other trains were struck in the same area at roughly the same time, I'd be less likely to put "operator error" as first on my suspicions list.

It would be indeed unusual if someone was ambushing trains on that night. Not impossible, of course - flashmobs can be arranged via smartphones. But if there was a "competition" running that night among urban teens to hit trains, people will talk - too many, hundreds, would know.

However, as this thread demonstrates, it is hard to imagine how a thrown object could cause the train to accelerate and inevitably derail. As we can see in the photo, that is one tough locomotive; it stayed in one piece after leaving tracks; the glass cracked but retained integrity. In this photo you can even see the branch that was broken off. The locomotive is most likely *designed* to absorb collisions with thrown objects of some reasonable size. If the engineer wants to use the "involuntary incapacitation" or "external influence" type defense, he will have to come up with a very good story. As the engineer lawyered up and isn't talking, chances are that he had no such external, exonerating event to report.

For comparison, imagine that someone shot at the train and wounded the operator. The operator falls onto the controls, blacks out, then recovers, but it's too late. Would he remain quiet about his injury after the crash? That'd be insane - the shooter has to be found, and the evidence. You can't sit on such facts for a week.

I’ve had my driver window shot out or completely shatter while driving and was in shock. I just barely controlled the car from going off the road hitting a curve. I would usually slow down before the curve.

i had a similar experience on my driver sdie window and nothing actually hit me. same effect. If he was hit in the head. he could have been semi-conscious.
