Kerry: Internet 'Needs Rules to Be Able to Flourish and Work Properly'

n a speech today in South Korea, Secretary of State John Kerry said that the Internet "needs rules to be able to flourish and work properly." This, according to Kerry, is necessary even for "a technology founded on freedom."

Speaking on behalf of the Obama administration, Kerry said that Internet policy is "a key component of our foreign policy."

Kerry made his remarks in the context of talking about how international law is applicable to the Internet. "As I’ve mentioned, the basic rules of international law apply in cyberspace. Acts of aggression are not permissible. And countries that are hurt by an attack have a right to respond in ways that are appropriate, proportional, and that minimize harm to innocent parties. We also support a set of additional principles that, if observed, can contribute substantially to conflict prevention and stability in time of peace. We view these as universal concepts that should be appealing to all responsible states, and they are already gaining traction," said Kerry.

The internet seems to be working fine right now, I pay my local ISP who grants me access to whatever information I need to access at any given time.

IOW, no more Mohammed cartoons, no more criticism of The One, or Cankles, or Castro, etc. Control of access by foreign gov'ts? That's none of your business, and prepare to be served.

Kerry: Internet 'Needs Rules to Be Able to Flourish and Work Properly'

We already have a set of rules. It's called the U.S. Constitution, which says to internationalists like Kerry: Keep your hands off our free speech.

“needs rules to be able to flourish and work properly.”

What??? I’ll offer a deeply thought out policy for the current regime: Leave it the hell alone.

An International organization will be able to zero any DNS entry they choose, according to THEIR criteria. And THEIR law.

The only way to get to a site that has been zero'd (I coined this term:) will be via IP address.

He’d be a laughable clown idiot, were he not so empowered.

I think that most knowledgeable people would agree that the internet already is able to flourish and work properly. Why does the internet need more rules? How is it not flourishing and working properly? Is the internet not already founded on freedom?

Does John Kerry want to get rid of Drudge, and other reliable and effective sources of information like Free Rupublic? Is that what he is saying?

Give it a few years and we on FR will be in jail for subversive internet postings (i.e. subversive equals anything not in line with the leftist, one world agenda.)

Hey John!

“Flourish and Work Properly” is exactly what it’s done over the last 25 years.

Any government involvement will guarantee failure in both measures.

For proof, please refer to:

IRS
DMV
Immigration
EPA
Post Office
Amtrack
Fannie Mae
Freddy Mac

oh....and...uh...THE STATE DEPARTMENT!!!
