Rand Paul: Bill Clinton Put A Generation of Black Men in Prison
The Hill ^ | May 18, 2015 | Alexander Bolton

Posted on 05/18/2015 3:55:32 PM PDT by Jack Black

PHILADELPHIA — Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul says he will bash Hillary Clinton over her husband’s record of putting “a generation of black men in prison” if he is the nominee.

Paul, a freshman senator from Kentucky, says he will compete with Clinton in Philadelphia, where Democrats have a 7-to-1 registration advantage, and other impoverished cities by highlighting his support for criminal justice reform.

“If I were the nominee, we will compete in Philadelphia,” he told CBS radio talk show host Dom Giordano at the National Constitution Center.

“I’ll ask Hillary Clinton, what have you done for criminal justice? Your husband passed all the laws that put a generation of black men in prison. Her husband was responsible for that,” he said.

“She’s changing her tune now. She’s changing her tune because people like me have been speaking out against these injustices,” he said.

As president, Clinton signed the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, which gave states fiscal incentives to enact tougher sentencing laws.

Paul noted that in some predominantly African-American communities such as Ferguson, Mo., there are substantially fewer black men than women because so many black men are incarcerated.

He touted bills he has introduced with Democratic support that would give judges more discretion in handing out sentencing and would reduce penalties for non-violent drug offenses.

Paul said he would also challenge Clinton about her vision for reinvigorating blighted urban centers.

“I’ll also ask her what she’s going to do for poor people in Philadelphia. I have a specific plan that would dramatically lower the taxes for people who live in zip codes of poverty and high unemployment. I would leave billions of dollars in Philadelphia over 10 years. What’s Hillary Clinton going to do?” he said.

This is another 17th Amendment-related issue. More on the 17th Amendment shortly.

Upon reviewing what the Violent Crime and Law Enforcement Act did, I noticed the following.

"… and a variety of new crimes defined in statutes relating to immigration law, hate crimes, sex crimes, and gang-related crime [emphasis added]. The bill also required states to establish registries for sexual offenders by September 1997.” — Violent Crime and Law Enforcement Act

My concern about the violent crime act is the following. Regarding the crimes indicated above, the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to make such laws imo. So regardless of race, how many people have gone to prison for breaking federal laws which the feds actually had no constitutional authority to make?

So not only are we seeing the corrupt feds making unconstitional PC, civil rights-related crime laws to win votes from low-information voters, but probably many people have gone to jail for breaking such “laws.”

Getting back to 17A, the Founding States had intended for the federal Senate to be controlled uniquely by state lawmakers partly so that senators could protect their citizens from tyrannical federal government. So senators should have killed the Violent Crime and Law Enforcement Bill to protect the citizens of their states from unconstitutional federal laws imo.

The 17th Amendment needs to disappear, and a bunch of corrupt senators along with it.

He should run as a democrat, then he could take her on 1-to-1.

And he has no principles, so what difference does it make what party he is in?

So how was she responsible for what Bill did? Hilly has plenty of her own ghosts. Underhanded tactic.

It's naive pansies like you that have caused the conservative movement to have less political clout than the nation's transvestites.

Underhanded tactic? She wasn't responsible for what Bill did and we shouldn't be doing this kind of thing???? Not fair to be saying these kinds of things about Hillary?

This is HILLARY F___KING CLINTON we're talking about! She'll absolutely destroy any GOP candidate that shows any sign of weakness.

The Racism Charge is political kryptonite against an opponent. Haven't you people figured that out yet? The Libs have been using it against us for literally decades. And it WORKS. EVERY. TIME.

Rand Paul declaring that a Clinton has jailed a generation of blacks is freaking EXACTLY what he should be saying.

Every response on this thread is a clear example of why conservatism loses.

Rand Paul making a charge of racism is exactly what he should be doing.

“””Rand Paul declaring that a Clinton has jailed a generation of blacks is freaking EXACTLY what he should be saying.”””

Wow! What a weird thing to say. Are you saying these blacks shouldn’t have been sent to jail for their crimes?

A generation of black criminals put themselves in prison. Unless he promises the usual sh*tload of tax-payer funded goodies, Paul’s pandering to blacks will do him no good whatsoever.

Paul is giving urban voters a reason to hesitate rather than just pull the lever for Clinton...which helps regardless who the Republican nominee might be.

Felons can’t vote so he isn’t pandering to them.

Felons will be voting if Rand Paul gets his way, that is the other side of his pro-felon campaign.

*Sigh* You just don't get it.

Facts don't matter. Emotions and appearances matter.

The "American People" no longer have the morals, competence, or intelligence to cast an informed vote.

If Republicans want to win, they need to ATTACK the Democrats. Call THEM racists. Say THEY hate women.

Stop using all the goody-goody "let's debate the issues concerning the Constitution" crap.

The Dems have been doing it for literally decades with breathtakingly amazing success.

Gotta start somewhere. Never know till you try.

I don't think any prominent lib politician has ever been accused of racism. I think if they were, and the accusation didn't go away in a few days, but stuck, then they would self destruct. They just couldn't handle it.

We held the black vote until Teddy Roosevelt snubbed George Washington Carver over PC crap.

Then FDR capitalized on it and sewed them up for the Dems.

Race relations with the R’s has never been the same.

There are plenty of things that the Democrats are racist about and hate woman about.

Why give lenient sentences to criminals?

Besides criminals cause harm to innocent blacks the most. So tell me who is on the side of racism.

If Republicans want to win they can be truthful, not lenient to criminals and they can accurately call the Democrats racist because they are the ones who support longer sentences for criminals.

Total damned nonsense...people are in prison because they didn’t behave themselves....stop violating the law and remain as free as a bird.....break the law and go to prison.....that’s what they are for.

Would that include, for instance, freeing adults who choose to use substances that Fedzilla does not authorize? I personally detest even the smell of weed, and much prefer a nice Avo Domaine.

At least when the Christian Ladies wanted to force men to stop drinking they passed a Constitutional amendment. Under what "living breathing" interpretation of the Constitution were mere plants with thousands of years of human use made illegal?

stop violating the law

Because all the laws are good ones, including the ones that make bakers produce cakes for gay weddings and make it illegal for psychologists to help young boys get over homosexual impulses. (Two recent additions to the laws you recommend everyone "stop violating")
