The present Abe administration would; if the Socialists ever get the power back, all bets would be off.

The Chinese, in their heart of hearts, has to wish Korea would be reunified as a democracy. The Koreans have never wanted hegemony in China, and economic co-operation between China, Taiwan, unified Korea, Japan, and a revitalized US would be the envy of the world.

Interesting thought Chajin.

You really think China would want a ROK all the way up to the Manchurian Border?

South Korea is one of their biggest trading partners already. If the DPRK (North Korea) were somehow quickly re-unified along the lines of the German model, Korea would be one of the top 5 economies in the world by 2030.

And if Godzilla joins in, the North Koreans are toast.

That's the thing about Godzilla, which is a Japanese metaphor for nuclear weapons and the destructiveness of the USA. (Well it was in the beginning for Godzilla.) So Godzilla joining in would actually mean the USA raining destruction on North Korea. Supposedly, the name is a cross between the Japanese characters for gorilla and whale. As for Obama, they need a name representing a cross between monkey and chicken (and/or turkey, skunk, weasel, etc.).

I presume they’re leaning back so that the recoil of each shot will lift the bullets up to Godzilla’s height?

Doesn’t it work better if you put the rifle on your shoulder and look through the sights?

I have only one issue with any claims that Japan might attack North Korea on some “mutual defense” issue with the United States.

The issue I have is there should be no such effort or even claim there would be such an effort without it taking place within the framework of the U.S.-South Korea joint military command agreements and existing U.S.-South Korea mutual defense agreements.

For Japan to act unilaterally and not in coordination and cooperation with the U.S.-South Korea mutual defense pact would be a big mistake, and we need to be sure Japan understands that.

The exception to my concern is of course some event where Japan and Japan alone is attacked by North Korea. Japan need ask no one for permission to retaliate.

I count the same. Dude behind the tree is better hidden than that frog-green camo deserves. Definitely the wrong pattern for that dry grass.

You really think China would want a ROK all the way up to the Manchurian Border?

It would be advantageous for four reasons: it would end the refugee problem of NKs crossing the border into China; it would give the Chinese one less headache in terms of rogue regimes it feels it has to act like it supports; it would provide 25,000,000 new customers over the next generation; and since there is no reason for the Koreans to cross the Yalu and invade, the PLA could concentrate on China's more pressing military-related issue, the jihadists in the western provinces.
