Leading news services AP and Reuters have issued corrections to reports last Saturday claiming that Pope Francis called Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas an "angel of peace."
That translation of the Pope's comments was republished by numerous international news outlets, including Arutz Sheva.
But after initial doubts as to the accuracy of the translation ensued, several Italian-language experts confirmed to Arutz Sheva that Francis actually told Abbas that he "may" or "could" be an "angel of peace," in an attempt to persuade him to return to peace talks with Israel.
Now the mis-translation has finally been acknowledged, at least partially, with AP issuing a clarification that the Pope in fact told Abbas that he was only "a bit" of an angel of peace.
"The Associated Press erroneously omitted two words when quoting the pope. Francis told Abbas ‘you are a bit an angel of peace,’ not ‘you are an angel of peace.’ The original Italian quote was, ‘Lei e un po un angelo della pace,'” AP said.
Reuters issued a similar clarification, also reporting that the Pope actually told Abbas "you are a bit an angel of peace," at least according to an unnamed 'reporter representing several news agencies at the meeting."
Vatican chief spokesperson, Father Federico Lombardi, told Reuters he hadn't heard the Pope's statement himself, but insisted that "it is clear that there was no intention to offend anyone."

The Spanish translation said “Be an angel of peace.” That’s a stupid thing to say, true, but it doesn’t seem that the Pope said “You are an angel of peace.”
This is not the first time with the Pope. This one is off the hook with his mouth in a bad way.
IMO Catholics got their own Obama.

There are a lot of Catholics who are starting to despise this Pope.
I was at a wake for a Catholic friend of mine and I can't believe some of the things I heard regarding him.
This man is going to damage Catholicism irreparably.
This is really the first I've heard about some of the internal dissension within the church when it comes to this Pope. I am really shocked and mostly because it appears I haven't been paying attention where I should have.
I soured on this pope when he chastised Americans for not welcoming the invasion of illegals with open arms. He seems to think that we in the US have this unlimited amount of money to throw around to everyone with a hand out and he tries to impose guilt on us because we don’t care to go bankrupt feeding, clothing, housing and educating those who want everything for free.
Now he is openly embracing our enemies and the enemies of Israel. Again, why do Americans want him to come here?
He’s not even a little of an angel of peace. This kinda crushes papal infallibility.
I would love it if Israel tells the Pope his Angel of Peace is in charge of protecting his holy sites.
