“Lottery Winners”: Obama Gets It Wrong Again
Patriot News Daily ^ | 5/18/2015 | Staff

Posted on 05/19/2015 2:34:57 PM PDT by HomerBohn

Discussing what could be done to help the plight of the poor last week, President Obama again gave Americans a look at how he thinks about concepts like success and wealth.

Calling the wealthy “society’s lottery winners,” Obama argued that it was incumbent on government to steal from these lucky few so that the unlucky many could have a better life. It is not surprising, of course, that he would say such a thing. His entire administration has been built on the notion that “you didn’t build that.”

People are where they are in life not because of the choices they’ve made, but rather because of the circumstances foisted upon them. It all comes down to luck in ObamaLand. Those Americans struggling to make ends meet are in poverty because fate dealt them that hand. Those Americans enjoying their summers on a yacht are only doing so because fate smiled on them.

When you look at success and failure through this prism, redistributive policies make a lot more sense. After all, why should only a select few get to enjoy the spoils of victory when they did absolutely nothing to deserve them? This view of the world isn’t unique to Obama; it is the major determining force in whether you consider yourself a conservative or a liberal.

Some have wondered why Hollywood stars tend to swing overwhelmingly to the left. After all, with all of their millions they should be wary of tax policies that would eat into their gigantic bank accounts. But actors are an insecure bunch, even if their oversized egos would seem to say otherwise.

Breaking into the movie business takes looks, talent, and hard work, but there is an undeniable luck quotient at play. Even the biggest stars can see that if the cards fallen another way, they could have easily spent their lives chasing an unrealized dream. People who built their success from the ground up are rarely afflicted with that kind of nagging insecurity.

Every successful person has had their share of “luck,” but there’s a difference between catching a few breaks and having your success handed to you on a silver platter. When you work hard enough and smart enough, the breaks will come. The key, as these entrepreneurs know, is to take advantage of them when they do. They don’t have to apologize for their wealth, because they earned it every step of the way.

Contrary to what Obama would have you believe, the latter kind of success – the boring, grinding kind – is far more common than the former. And it is a type of success achievable by almost anyone, should they have the guts and the determination to see their goals through to the end. Those who have achieved it know that they didn’t win any kind of lottery. They paid for their success in sweat, and it is a tragic insult for Obama to claim otherwise. Worse, it sends the exact wrong message to young men and women who might like a yacht of their own one day.

Barry never earned his right to anything... he is the product of 'affirmative action' and 'minority preference' programs... not only was he spoon fed and groomed to be a Marxist, his University and early political career were arranged and basically given to him.

Of course, he sees everything as a matter of luck or fate... not earned... he certainly never earned the right to be President.

America is so screwed. Not only by Barry and his handlers, but by the gullible idiot Americans who elected him twice. Further, we've been screwed by this disgusting one party system.

In order to lead within the Democrat party he must say it is luck and white privilege.
How could he go on and lead and say it is about self investment, preparing for opportunity and the market?
That would make the hand out crowd responsible for much of their own circumstances and looking in the mirror for who is responsible doesn’t go over well in some communities.

His career has been in the planning for decades. Ayers did his job well. Soros is loving. We are paying for it.

I supposed my nephew, who studies sometimes 12 hours a day in law school, will win the lottery when is making six figures.

Obama’s a useful idiot.

Yeah, they came upon their wealth by pure chance. A mere toss of the dice. They didn’t earn it. They didn’t build it.

Yeah, they came upon their wealth by pure chance. A mere toss of the dice. They didn’t build it. They didn’t earn it. So let’s spread it around!

Spot on. This guy has been handed every advantage his entire adult life.

No wonder he thinks in terms of “lottery winners” - he won the affirmative action, etc. lottery at every step of the way. He’s never earned an honest grade, position or dollar his ENTIRE adult life.

Unlike some of us who kept our noses clean, got good grades, worked hard, and tried to put away some money. I and the many others here similarly situated didn’t win a lottery. We made CHOICES, virtually all of which are open to EVERYONE in this country.

I heard him that day and I was very mad as I know two men who are still working at 70 and 71 well over 60 hours a week. One provides over 300 jobs to very skilled types like BSEE’s and the other owns master franchises all over the southeast and has worked since he was 15. Obama put down two of the most decent folks we know.

If Obama is correct there should be an average number of welfare recipients who have won extreme wealth purely by chance. Oops. Cannot find even one. Wonder why?

I don’t think the left believes it’s pure luck, but they believe several factors are involved, including luck.

Leftist love government—that’s a major factor for success in their eyes. For example, they think government creates the infrastructure that allows a business owner to get rich They don’t understand the wealth needed to build that infrastructure came from the owner’s industry (via taxation), and wouldn’t exist if the owner hadn’t “built it” first.

Government can be good for business and help people become wealthy, but not like the left thinks and certainly not like the government we have in America today.

A lottery winner is a golf bum, drug abuser and intellectual mediocrity who gets an Ivy league education for free, never worked a day in his life and lives like a king.

Importantly, Al Gore first coined the expression, “Winners of life’s lottery”, when describing his wealthy peers.

Meanwhile, this pathetic excuse of a “president”....this miserable, lying, SOB, never worked a day of his pampered life in the private sector.

He, Hillary, and Squaw Warren can go to hell.

The lottery winners are the .gov employees living off other peoples work like parasites. Taking a 75% cut and stringing the poor along the path of dependency is evil manipulation for their own power and lifestyle of partying at tax payer expense.
