Vatican appointee says gay sex can express Christ’s ‘self-gift’

ROME, May 19, 2015 (LifeSiteNews.com) -- Pope Francis has appointed radically liberal, pro-homosexual Dominican Father Timothy Radcliffe as a consultor for the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace.

The Holy Father made the appointment on Saturday, according to Vatican Radio.

Father Radcliffe, an Englishman, author and speaker, was Master of the Dominican order from 1992 to 2001, and is an outspoken proponent of homosexuality.

"We must accompany [gay people] as they discern what this means, letting our images be stretched open,” he said in a 2006 religious education lecture in Los Angeles. “This means watching 'Brokeback Mountain,' reading gay novels, living with our gay friends and listening with them as they listen to the Lord."

In 2005, as the Vatican deliberated the admission of men with homosexual tendencies to study for the priesthood in the wake of the Church sex abuse scandal, Father Radcliffe said that homosexuality should not bar men from the priesthood, and rather, those who oppose it should be banned. ...

“Interesting choice of words. A little double-entendre, perhaps”

I think you are right. Anyone that wants us to watch Brokeback Mountain or read a gay novel is probably using a double-entendre on purpose.

‘Looks like I chose the wrong day to get back into Catholicism.’

I know what you mean. It's hard to believe that this is the same Church as in my youth. I quit giving to the Catholic charities when I discovered they gave money to Acorn and that was during the Clinton years.

"We must accompany [gay people] as they discern what this means, letting our images be stretched open,”

I've noticed that all of these heretical clergy talk in this meaningless gibberish. They can't defend their position using scripture or reason so they resort to this vague babble which has no discernible meaning and then act as if they've said something profound. There was a thread I commented on yesterday where the pastor was doing the same thing.

I liked JPII, but he does seem to have taken a wrong turn somewhere. I think it is when he kissed the Koran.
“He kissed the Qur’an in Syria, an act that made him popular among Muslims but that disturbed many Catholics.[172]”

But he was definitely against homosexual families.

“While taking a traditional position on human sexuality, maintaining the Church's moral opposition to homosexual acts, John Paul II asserted that people with homosexual inclinations possess the same inherent dignity and rights as everybody else.[129] In his book Memory and Identity he referred to the “strong pressures” by the European Parliament to recognise homosexual unions as an alternative type of family, with the right to adopt children. In the book, as quoted by Reuters, he wrote: “It is legitimate and necessary to ask oneself if this is not perhaps part of a new ideology of evil, more subtle and hidden, perhaps, intent upon exploiting human rights themselves against man and against the family.”[64][130] A 1997 study determined that 3% of the pope's statements were about the issue of sexual morality.[131]”

“Totallly misleading and slanderous headline and article by schsmatic “catholic” group.”

I have never read anything remotely schismatic at this site. It is mostly a site about the evils of abortion and is often cited at Free Republic.

This group is however dismayed at this Pope’s dismissal of their work in helping people understand the evils of abortion.

https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/vatican-appointee-says-gay-sex-can-express-christs-self-gift

“We have sometimes been shocked by things that we have heard,” he said. He highlighted the pope’s statement in an interview shortly after his election, in which the pontiff said that Catholics should not speak about the issues of abortion, contraception, and homosexuality “all the time.”

The response of many pro-life leaders to that statement, Westen said, was, “Where is this happening?” “Because most of the countries in the West have had a virtual silence from the pulpits on these issues. And that virtual silence is accompanied by a shouting from every secular pulpit, magazine, book and screen of the gospel – I should say of the anti-gospel – of hedonism and sexual aberration called liberation.”

I find some of the comments by Catholics interesting but so sad. The statements “it’s the church not the individuals” leaves them empty. The Catholic Church IS the pope and the magisterium. The “vicar of Christ” they tell us.

There is no excuse for this type of blatant promotion of anti-Catholic behavior and beliefs.

“the Catholic church is the people...not the Pope nor its bishops nor its priests, although they hold positions in the Church...
now is not the time to leave the ship...”

Maybe now is the time for the Catholic people to come together and denounce these type of actions by this Pope. I do not believe Francis is naive. He is purposeful in his actions. If he is naïve, then he needs to be set right and stop harming the Church by appointing priest who think believing Catholics should be banned and good Catholics need to watch Brokeback Mountain.

He was *misquoted*?

It was lost in the translation?

He didn’t mean what he said or did?

He’s not a *real* pope so we don’t have to listen to him?

Some of the comments by Catholics sound positively Protestant! Seems we have a bunch of little Luthers here.

Are they protesting against the current pope, calling for a reform of Catholicism to get back to its roots?

Gee, that sounds awfully familiar.....

Along with our rectums.

When are people going to wake up and realize that we are dealing with sheer evil here?

This is not the first bad Pope. Lots of bad ones in the history book. They are just men, appointed by men. When you add in control of billions of $ and hq it in an ancient city...
