Josh Duggar, one of the members of the family that stars in TLC's "19 Kids and Counting" ... was the subject of a police investigation for allegedly sexually molesting 5 girls, some of whom are his sisters.
The story was broken by In Touch Weekly, but TMZ has confirmed with law enforcement that Josh Duggar -- who was around 14 at the time -- was the alleged molester against 5 girls starting in 2002.
According to the police report, Josh fondled the genitals and breasts of the girls, some of whom were sleeping, but sometimes they were interacting with him ... in one case reading a book.
There was another reported incident 9 months later.
According to the police report, the police were not immediately contacted. Instead, Jim Bob, the dad, met with church elders and agreed Josh should be put in a treatment program. The police report says Josh's mom, Michelle, said it wasn't really a treatment center ... they simply sent Josh to a guy who was remodeling a building to do manual labor.
In 2006, the family was scheduled to appear on "Oprah," and before the show someone sent an email to Harpo warning that Josh had molested girls. Harpo forwarded the email to a hotline, which triggered a police investigation.
Cops wanted to question Josh, but Jim Bob lawyered him up and Josh declined the invitation.
Josh, who is now 27, apparently cannot be charged because the statute of limitations has run.
As for the Duggars, one of the family members told investigators, "this entire incident had brought the family closer to God" ... this according to the police report.

Close the wound, hide the scar...and in the case of the Duggars, smile for the cameras (on your way to the bank).
The treatment of protecting their molesting son OVER the safety of the younger daughters, knocks the breath out of me. I expected “better” of them and now, like so many before them, they are just fakes and enablers at best and at worst...well, I’ll be Christian and “not go there.”
I have a great idea.
Let's inundate these girls with the past.
Let's get their minds writhing in righteous anger.
Then let's give them each a knife and let them carry out "justice".
Then, let's give you a knife, so that YOU can enact "justice" on anyone who harmed you in any way.
You ask me what my opinion is in giving these girls justice.

THE ONLY ones, to know what "justice" needs to be served, are the ones he molested.
I don't in any way condone what Duggar did but my comment was about the hypocritical way it is being handled by the media. They are going to have a field day with this. Why should they hold the Duggar family to a higher standard than the Clintons?

It's primitive, tribal stuff.
It is no different from troglodytes looting in Baltimore to protest the arrest of hardened criminals - because those criminals are the same ethnicity as they are, live in the same neighborhoods, etc.
I believe in moral absolutes and first principles, not tribalism, coverups, and closing ranks.
Just because the media are having too much fun with this for the wrong reasons doesn't mean we have to reflexively defend these dirtbags.
The Duggars were (are?) deeply involved in the of the Bill Gothard movement, which turned me off to them. Gothard ran his “Institutes” for years, setting himself up as some kind of authority, but accountable to no one. A lot of young women say they were abused by their leadership. The first time I came across this secretive wierd guy (more than 40 years ago), I had the willies.
Disappointed and Disgusted I am. It does explain one GIANT room for the girls and a separate one for the boys. All those girls in one room, someone would notice if Josh creeped in.
I feel for those girls. I don’t know if they got counseling and therapy. Perhaps they did, but it’s bound to affect their relationships with men.
I see these school pictures on the news of children that have been abused horribly, smiling for the camera but at the time no one helping them get away from the abuse. What goes on behind the pictures. Makes me sick.

Well of course they are! There is no doubt that the left is taking great delight in all of this but whose fault is that?
The family chose to go on national tv, travel around the country and put themselves on public display as representatives of a Christian moral life and family values. Josh chose to take a job in DC representing a pro-family lobbying group who I doubt knew about his past.
Truth always has a way of bubbling to the top. If this is being used against Christians in general the Duggars have no one to blame but themselves. They should have kept a lower profile.
The Constitution exists in the place of private justice, partially so that well-connected celebrities like Joshua Duggar cannot bargain their way out of consequences.
Maybe a child molester's victims forgive him. Good for them. We still do not want him wandering around free getting ready to beg forgiveness again from someone else.
At fourteen, Josh Duggar had sisters as young as three. I don’t think children that young understand “Justice” or “confrontation” or any of the other incredibly WEAK defenses you offer of Josh’s behavior. Those girls would only know a scary, weird, feeling of being VIOLATED. Of not feeling quite right, and of mom and dad (confirmed now by thier OWN insipid FaceBook postings) being more concerned about keeping things “quiet” than making them (their daughters) SAFE. Imagine being afraid to go to bed because “Josh may come in my room.” There is a TON of damage done in ONE incident. Apparently there were many.
As far as we know Bill Clinton has never molested children or personally arranged to cover up a molester's crimes.
The Duggars have.

Well, the Duggars don’t want to be the leaders of the free world either, do they? Do you see the difference?
You are right. More and more I see us becoming more like Bedouins in Anbar Province. We close our eyes to any misdeeds as long as the perpetrators look like us, or profess similar political or religious views. You cannot even offer constructive criticisms of “tribal” members without being savaged.
Think about the mentality of a person who would simultaneously argue that a 14 year old is too young to know right from wrong, but the 6 year old he assaulted has enough moral discernment to forgive him.

One thing from the show jumped to my mind (when I first read of this horrible story). The entire family was driving to visit another “quiver full” family. They had two vans (and used walkie talkies to communicate.) Jim Bob drove one, and teenage Josh drove the other one, NOT the adult parent, Michelle. I just found it weird. Why let a NEW driver take the wheel with half the kids of the family in it; while the other parent just “say.” It’s so minor, but I think it speaks to the family dynamic.
I am a Christian, and I know that God will judge.
But I would be tempted by the knife. This is why this young man should not have been allowed back in the home, and the girls needed counseling and protection from the media. Perhaps they were helped, but the brother who molested them was put on a pedastal by the family and given the spotlight on TV. It all seems very unwise.
And this family follows the false teachings of Bill Gothard, and they’ve subjected thousands of young women (and men) to emotional pain by encouraging this teaching. Now, they’ve brought all of their fellow Christians down, because they wanted fame and money rather than having the wisdom to realize that this awful secret would catch up to them, not to mention the children they’ve subjected to this would be hurt yet again.
The Duggars hold themselves up as role models to American Christians.
If anything the difference between the two cases is even less favorable to the Duggars.
We live in a time when we (the masses) are routinely lied to.
The media lies and cherry picks our news and current events.
Politicians lie thru their teeth with no recourse.
And now (audible gasp ) we learn that “reality TV stars” also lie and cover up awful crimes...just like media and politicians because THEY CAN and be rewarded just like the latter, with $$$, fame, attention, and did I mention money?
Some can’t handle the truth...they prefer the fake images.
Sick beyond belief. Let’s put this in perspective. A 14 year is an 8th grader or a HS freshman. When my daughter was in HS, a 14 year old was the starting quarterback of the varsity football team. When I was 14, I was shaving every three days and was 6’ 175lbs. Any normal 14 year boy knows that this criminal behavior is beyond the pail. A 14 year old is not a pre-schooler or a toddler, he is practically a man.
I feel so sorry for the victimized girls. Preached to constantly about keeping their “purity” while being subjected to filthy acts by their own brother. Then having the parents cover up for him!! There is nothing worse for a sexual abuse victim than to tell parents or guardians and have the violation swept under the rug and pretend it never happened. For all we know, he did it more. Why would the girls bother to tell??
