DUTCH SEA LEVEL RISE EXPERT: MIAMI WILL BE "THE NEW ATLANTIS," A CITY IN THE SEA
Miami New Times ^ | 5/21/15 | Jessica Weis

...after Hurricane Sandy bared down on New York, killing over 150 people and wreaking $65 billion in damage, federal leaders cried for help to make the Northeast more flood-proof. Dutch expert Henk Ovink answered.....

... there's good cause to be worried when the Dutch expert says there’s no place in worse shape today than Miami. He’s begun calling the city “the new Atlantis,” after the legendary and beautiful island subcontinent that was submerged by the sea in one night.

“If we look around the world and take into account sea level rise and the increase of water related disasters, among the places in the world that have the most assets and investments at risk, Miami is leading that list,” Ovink tells New Times. “Miami will no longer be a land city, but a city in the sea.”

Jeez, I thought the alarmists had told us in the 1980s the coastal cities of America would be underwater and, just a couple years ago, they also told us that the Arctic Ocean would be ice free by now.

It would take major league gullibility or an IQ below 85 for anyone to still believe their nonsense and scare tactics.

Sounds like he partakes of Amsterdam’s most famous product on a regular basis.

So I take it the (long-term) real estate play here is to buy inland property in FL that will become oceanfront?

The Dutch are looking for engineering contracts.

To make a sale, you have to convince the potential customer he has a problem that you can solve.

Sea levels have been rising since the end of the last ice age.

Indeed—I’m trying to figure out why Miami underwater would be such a bad thing.

“... bared down”???? An act of naked aggression, perhaps? Or did this illiterate malapropist mean BORE down? Or even beared down. Anything but “bared ...”

That’s all you hear up here in the Northeast. Sandy was a 50 year or longer storm. You would swear we were getting hit with one every year with the constant hysteria.

Meanwhile, the politicians are still busy stealing the Federal aid while homeowners and business owners are still not rebuilt.

I remember seeing maps and posters on the walls of the hippie communes, showing what the “new coastlines” would be once the flood starts.

THAT was back in the 1980’s.

Same song, different crop of weed.

Here’s buoy information in Virginia Key, FL amd I don’t see a sea level rise in 10 years when you check the levels but then again I’m not sure if I’m looking at the proper variables to confirm that this is correct. Maybe one of you guys that are more attuned to that field of expertise can take a look and see if the guy is full of $hip:
