The likely presidential candidate has some significant detractors in his party's base.
It's no secret that Jeb Bush isn't a huge favorite of conservatives. The former Florida governor, who has been "actively exploring" a run for president but hasn't yet officially announced a campaign, was met with skepticism and some boos at this year's Conservative Political Action Conference. A poll from earlier this month showed that he's just a plus-5 percent in favorability vs. unfavorability among self-described conservatives, compared to Sen. Marco Rubio's plus-33 or Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's plus-27.
But a new Quinnipiac poll adds more fire, and suggests that Bush's relationship with some conservative corners of his party may not be salvageable.
When asked if there are Republicans whom they would "definitely not support," 17 percent of GOP voters or Republican-leaning voters said they wouldn't back Bush. He comes second only to Donald Trump.
That group is fueled by voters who identify themselves as being "very conservative" or aligned with the tea party, according to the poll. Nearly a quarter of "very conservative" Republican voters said they'd never vote for Bush, along with nearly a third of tea-party voters.
Some of the Republican ill will toward Bush goes beyond just the far right of the party: A Pew poll from earlier this month found Bush leading other GOP contenders in unfavorability among both conservatives and Republicans who identify as being liberal or moderate.

It was NEVER to the point of support in any form or fashion. He might as well be a Mexican to me. We (he and I have NOTHING in common, nor could we ever.
He can take his Imelda Marcos wife, his kids and go back to their homeland for all I care.
There is no circumstance under which I would ever vote for him.
Jeb’s base is the DNC. Do you think that could be a problem with conservatives? Hello is any one home?
I agree with you 100%, yet I have relatives and neighbors who view any of the Bush family as extreme right wing. I feel that the demographic/social trends make it unlikely a true conservative will ever again be elected as president.
No vote for any more Bushes will ever be cast in my household.
I am so glad that there are so many conservative politicians now, with a resume to run for President. Yet, there are currently too many of them dividing the conservative vote.
The standard bearer to me has to unify the 3 stools of the GOP:
-has to be fiscally conservative enough
-has to be socially conservative enough
-has to be libertarian (small government) enough
To me, Ron Paul’s going to MSNBC to put the responsibility of creating ISIS on the GOP was so outrageous in its inaccuracy, that it disqualifies him in my eyes even though I loved him on so many issues.
Huckabee is the hands down champ on social issues. His big government high taxes track record as governor disqualifies him.
If Santorum couldn’t win the nomination right after being a Senator, I don’t see how he could so many years removed.
I LOVE Ben Carson. His lack of political experience makes me nervous though, and I don’t know whether he would be a big or small government type (at a certain time people were excited about Colin Powell and are still excited about Condolezza Rice - we want to know the real views of our standard bearers). I think he would make a great VP candidate. Here’s a brilliant conservative black man who would go a long way toward healing the racial divide, something people were fooled into thinking that Obama cared about doing.
There is no perfect candidate. The strongest two are Ted Cruz and Scott Walker. I wouldn’t mind looking at Bobby Jindal to test if he has improved his communication and debating skills (great resume and huge list of accomplishments).
I frankly wish the other conservatives would drop away so as not to give Bush the nomination.
Me either...I’ll stay home if he’s all that’s on the ballot.
McCain and then Romney broke the spell for many who are nominally Republican but vote that party as the closest approximation to their values. The “take it or leave it” attitude that we were left with forced many to make choices that left a bad taste that still lingers.
I get a sense that this election will be different. Either we get a candidate worth voting for or significant numbers (more than the numbers from previous elections) will simply stay home.
It’s easy to find the “I didn’t leave the pubbie party - the pubbie party left me!” sentiment at FreeRepublic but I’m encountering it everywhere. More than just disenchantment, they are saying No More with ever increasingly strident voices.
It should prove interesting.
Enough of these self-desribed labels. Tell us what you intend to do as President then I will tell what label to apply. That said, we should cut the Bushes - they are overgrown.
“Stay home” immaculated Obastard. You’re willing to see the shrew immaculated as well? She’s far left of Obastard and will finish off the U.S. of A. I don’t want a Bush (or any family) dynasty and cannot stand Bush’s stand on immigration and social issues. It could be yet another “hold your nose” vote.
You can stick it where the sun don’t shine fella. That crap don’t work no more.
I would never vote for him. Look at the direction of the country since a Bush became president. They are not American imo. Could never vote for a Bush, unless of course he was actually an American and conservative. Jeb is neither.
Yet others here say you should because he is the lesser of two evils and blah, blah, blah...despite your having been there done that with McInsane and Romney.....
You piss ‘them’ off and they’ll find a clever way to call you a bastard.
Several months ago, JBush was claiming to be a ‘reform conservative.’
That apparently didn’t catch on or it reminded too many of a ‘compassionate conservative.’
==
A true conservative does not have to modify, explain, rename, rebrand their version of conservatism.
That dog don’t hunt anymore.
Frankly, your calling me a bastard “don’t hunt anymore” either. I guess you’ve taken the Dale Carnegie course and also read “How to win friends and influence people,” huh....
There’s a popular recent saying “You can’t expect to keep making the same mistake over and over again and come up with a different result.”
With respect (and NOT calling you a bastard) I’m really not interested in what you have to say.
I have made grievous error and I apologize sincerely. I meant that to the poster that called me a bastard. I mistakenly thought your post was from him because I hadn’t heard his reply.
Again, my sincere apologies.
Gaffer, you just apologized to yourself.
Sorry. I keep screwing up in between trying to make some dough....I am sorry that I mistook your reply for the original poster that called me a bastard for not wanting to vote for Jeb.
It was my stupid error and I am sorry.
Yeah....I noticed and corrected in the next post. Color me embarrassed ....
