Power corrupts.

I remember, back in my days of working on/around Capitol Hill, all the attractive young women and men who ruthlessly try to land a Congressman. Either for career advancement or just sport. Regardless of that Congressman’s marital status. If you were a male Congressman wanting to get laid it was an all you can eat buffet. If you were a weak willed Congressman, you were pretty easy prey.

I also know that a lot of male Congressmen, usually at the insistence of their wives, had staff who were designated to shadow their Congressman and run off the vultures.

I was more House-side, but heard the Senate was much, much worse. A lot of Senators have what are called “hideaways” in the Capital, which are secret private rooms they can trick out any way they’d like. And pretty much use however they’d like.

Let me get this straight. You think he only had 1 male sexual partner
over 35 years?

If he did it once he probably has done it numerous times with others
throughout his life.

I would not be surprised if others start coming forward.

I could care less about his sexual preference.
However, because of his sexual preference, was he blackmailed by the
GOP powers that be when he was Speaker. And passed bills the RINO’s
wanted because of his desire to hide his sexual preference?

That is what I want answers to.

“Political corruption and sexual deviance seems to go together”

Power and sex and inevitable sexual abuse all go together.

Most people cannot handle the power of doing anything they “want”.

Until you have it, you wont understand how power can corrupt even the most noble man

Iirc Hastert was largely a figurehead (after the twin disasters of Gingrich and Livingston) and it was Armey and DeLay actually running the show.

I suspect that if it were all aired DC would look like London and we would find that there are a whole lot more pedophiles than previously suspected.

Happens a lot with minors seduced by adults.

Newt’s life parallels the track that these other kids in the “guilty/not guilty” threads.

I agree. Except let’s at least recognize that some who don’t get involved in such behavior it is to a considerable extent because they don’t have much opportunity.

It is well known that power and fame is even more aphrodisiac to many women than money. So these guys get some of the same opportunities as rock stars and pro athletes.

I suspect it’s a little easier to be faithful to your wife when you don’t have hot chicks throwing themselves at you.

I have had to put up with this myself for 30-some years, but have nevertheless not cheated on the wife.

(That’s a joke, son. The women throwing themselves at me part, not the marital faithfulness part.)

You know, I keep think about this and asking, “why now?” Surely this was known for a long time. I can’t help but think money is not the only thing that was given for silence. This did not come out during all of his political career? It only comes out now after its usefulness is mostly past. The payee has a boatload of cash. Political enemies got whatever they wanted. Now they can stick it to Hastert as an example/threat to those other guys in congress they are blackmailing. GIVE US WHAT WE WANT OR THIS WILL HAPPEN TO YOU. Bottom line, once they’ve been used up, it WILL happen to them.

It just makes you wonder.

Yes, it's probably disgusting, though if he were having an affair with a teacher or harassing a student teacher, then like WJC it's just about sex.

He appears to have committed a crime and should pay the price.

It also appears Individual A blackmailed him, and I'll speculate failed to report significant income. I assume he's being charged, but if not, something is very wrong with this investigation. Lying to a federal agent doesn't require an informant to prove, and structuring is right there in black and white. I'm surprised the banks involved didn't bring this to light, and may be facing charges as well.

I’m surprised this couldn’t have been dug out before, or when, he was in Congress.

If he’d let it go public (obviously gay “misconduct”) he’d be a hero now.

Unless their are pictures, he should’ve just let it go public and denied it.

The financial transactions are there in black and white. Denying it won't fly, but it's the type of thing he could have cut a deal on. As to the underlying sexual misconduct, denial might have been an option. If this began in 2010, contacting the FBI regarding blackmail would have been a better alternative.

Boner and McTurtle are keeping up the tradition. Obama has no doubt sent them copies of photos of them in bed with boys.

Pollutico isn’t missing a trick on this. Their article today mentioned Hastert as a Republican FOUR times.

"I'm going to meet the Democratic caucus halfway" Hastert promised last night...and while collegues joked that Gingrich's worst enemy was his own mouth, Hastert is more likely to mumble a mild reply to a question and is reluctant to sound off on controversial issues.

Does any of this seem familiar?
Have we heard statements similar to the ones above in recent times?
Hmmmmmmmm......whatever could this mean?

I thought it was illegal to engage in extortion and blackmail a person.

Here the FBI seem to be pursuing a man who was blackmailed FOR making the payments.

Meanwhile Jesse Jackass stole money from the Rainbow Push foundation to pay hush money to the baby mama of his little bastard and he is a free man who is uncompromised in the public eye as he stokes the fires of race riots.

The media chooses who they will honor and protect.

PS Bill Clinton paid hush money to Monica Lewinsky to get her to lie under oath. He's a free man too.
