As one of the city's deadliest months comes to an end, terrified residents have compared parts of Baltimore to the Wild West.
In the wake of the Freddie Gray riots, families have barricaded themselves inside their homes, too afraid to leave, while those on the streets walk around wielding guns - because there are allegedly no police around to arrest them.
Arrested are down 50percent and homicides are at their highest level in 15 years. In the Western District, there have been more murders in the first five months of this year than in all of 2014.
Neighborhoods such as West Baltimore, which had seen heavy policing because of endemic drug and gang violence in recent years, have experienced a reversal, with citizens claiming they have been virtually abandoned.
But embattled law enforcement officials claim they are 'under siege' from criminals taking advantage of the unrest, while officers complain they are met with hostility while policing certain areas.

Liberals have leapt on the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in Florida to push for the repeal of “stand your ground” laws and to demand tighter gun control. (MSNBC’S Karen Finney blamed “the same people who stymied gun regulation at every point.”)
This would be like demanding more funding for the General Services Administration after seeing how its employees blew taxpayer money on a party weekend in Las Vegas.
We don’t know the facts yet, but let’s assume the conclusion MSNBC is leaping to is accurate: George Zimmerman stalked a small black child and murdered him in cold blood, just because he was black.
If that were true, every black person in America should get a gun and join the National Rifle Association, America’s oldest and most august civil rights organization. Apparently this has occurred to no one because our excellent public education system ensures that no American under the age of 60 has the slightest notion of this country’s history.
Gun control laws were originally promulgated by Democrats to keep guns out of the hands of blacks. This allowed the Democratic policy of slavery to proceed with fewer bumps and, after the Civil War, allowed the Democratic Ku Klux Klan to menace and murder black Americans with little resistance.
(Contrary to what illiterates believe, the KKK was an outgrowth of the Democratic Party, with overlapping membership rolls. The Klan was to the Democrats what the American Civil Liberties Union is today: Not every Democrat is an ACLU’er, but every ACLU’er is a Democrat. Same with the Klan.)
In 1640, the very first gun control law ever enacted on these shores was passed in Virginia. It provided that blacks — even freemen — could not own guns.
Chief Justice Roger Taney’s infamous opinion in Dred Scott v. Sandford circularly argued that blacks could not be citizens because if they were citizens, they would have the right to own guns: “[I]t would give them the full liberty,” he said, “to keep and carry arms wherever they went.”
Dealing with logic like that, Republicans eventually had to fight a Civil War to get the Democrats to give up slavery.
Alas, they were Democrats, so they couldn’t learn. After the war, Democratic legislatures enacted “Black Codes,” denying black Americans the rights of citizenship — such as the rather crucial one of bearing arms — while other Democrats (sometimes the same Democrats) founded the Ku Klux Klan.
For more than a hundred years, Republicans have aggressively supported arming blacks, so they could defend themselves against Democrats.

It is a well know fact that there were policies in place for the paddy wagon that the cops did not follow. The Grand jury indicted the cops. Why are you jumping to the conclusion they are innocent? If they did nothing wrong, they will be set free.
You believe that EVERYTIME cops go out they are surrounded by 30 people? I don’t. Even if these 6 arrested cops are innocent, it does not give cops the right to blackmail the citizens. They should figure out how to deal. Call out the national guard if they really are confronted with 30 people when they go out. I watch the show cops. Many times when the cops go out they are surrounded by big crowds. If the cops are afraid they should get other jobs.

The police are the nearest thing to a father figure that nearly all of these “young men” have had in their lives. There is a near uniform absence of fathers in these neighborhoods.
We now have boys raised by nasty, lazy, and morally bankrupt women, who were raised by nasty, lazy, and morally bankrupt women. We are now on Generation IV of these people and they are now completely feral. Devoid of even the most basic humanity.

It’s up to the Mayor of Baltimore to keep her city’s streets safe instead of being overrun by rampaging murderers, which she could easily have accomplished weeks ago by declaring a curfew in the Black ghetto and, if necessary, calling in the National Guard to enforce it.
After the first fifteen or so violent deaths this month, the Mayor should have acted; but since she didn’t, the subsequent twenty-plus murders are on her head. And her malfeasance will continue to destroy her city and her people until she does what’s necessary.
The Al Sharpton/Obama-created myth that young Black men are all gentle giants who would be able to go on their gentle way if the police didn’t come into their neighborhoods and interfere with them has been completely and publicly demolished by the recent events in Baltimore.
If the death of Freddy Gray was considered by Al Sharpton to be such a monstrous crime by the police that he felt he had to come to Baltimore and foment riots, what does he think about the 38 deaths of Black youths in Baltimore this month that were perpetrated by other Black youths just doing their thing?

Very astute observation. There is a heavy tone of passive-aggressive behavior going on. The police have made a decision to stay out of it as much as possible, for matters of survival and career liability. Can’t say that I blame them a bit.
