“The officer was wrong to try and force the person to leave, but you don’t touch an officer if you don’t want to get shot.”
*****************************************************************************************************

Tru dat. At the linked site, the state police showed what they categorized as a “snippet” of the video from one of the trooper's vehicle. So I hope we, at some point, see the whole video. And not just the video from one trooper's car, but that from both vehicles. And by "whole" I mean from the time each trooper arrived on site until things were completely resolved. (

In the “snippet”, the trooper on the left seemed (at least to me) to be highly jacked up while the other trooper seemed to be calm. At one point, while repeatedly telling the stranded motorists to get out of the water, that trooper reached down and “checked” his holstered service weapon.

JLS, thank you for your thoughts. I find it interesting that you post a link from 5-6 years ago to “color” all Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers and illustrate that there is an issue with them. They have a difficult job, and most (all that I know) do their best. It is likely that they had more training in rescue than the property owners.

Regardless, it serves no purpose to call names and ascribe negative qualities to them. I suppose I should ask what you mean when you call them morons. But, that will be for another day. I learned a few decades ago that my argument (orally or in writing) will be reduced if I call names. I like to deal in observable facts. From the video it appeared that a fight was started by the decedent as he was armed. The altercation apparently occurred off camera. But, I’m not ready to make a judgment yet. You may be correct - but at this point, the needle hasn’t moved off dead center (pardon the pun) for me to assess right/wrong.

P.S. If you ever get up to OKC let me know and I’ll be happy to buy you a cup of coffee.

That, unless it exonerates the trooper, you can forget about.

Well taken, wideawake. Thank you for your thoughts. Perhaps someday we will know the circumstances.

Get out of the floodwaters —> BAM

"We had to kill one to save them both"

Wonder what the troopers said to make a pastor annoyed enough to shove one of them?

Perhaps those that cast judgment will see this.

...

This won’t change their minds one bit.

Keep your hands off an officer of the law.

Keep the officers of the law out of people's faces.

The two officers had NO DUTY to do ANYTHING at the scene of the shooting, as pointed out by SpeakerToAnimals in post #7.

They went on the muscle, and couldn't handle a peasant laying hands on them after they opened their yaps.

Thanks moonman62, unfortunately your correct. It is human nature to be slow to change a mind IF an initial judgment is made. I’m told psychologists call this a human’s need for consistency. We get lazy and don’t go through the process every time - we just do like we did before. Once we “decide” we have ownership in the position.

I will agree to this on the day I can shoot a man who shoves ME to the ground, and shoot him to death with impunity.

“Perhaps...,” “If..., “If...,” are the operative words repeatedly used on comments on this thread. And, they are the key to the truth. If, you believe them.

If he was, he had a right to defend himself.

So if you were to push me I have the right to kill you?

In Oklahoma, the primary purpose of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is (surprise) patrolling roads and highways. Barricading flooded roads is one thing they do. Also, probably, these people's offence, Oklahoma Statute 47:11§11-103:
No person shall willfully fail or refuse to comply with any lawful order or direction of any police officer invested by law with authority to direct, control or regulate traffic.

The cited code links to case law, if interested.

Nanny state annoys citizen. Citizen disrespects cop. Contempt of cop carries death penalty. And people defend such actions.

The officer was wrong to try and force the person to leave, ...

From what I saw in the video, the “force” was nothing more than verbal commands.

Well, they didn’t show THOSE portions of the video, did they?

Questions:

Was this snippet of video from the vehicle of the 2nd trooper arriving at the scene or from the trooper who arrived 1st?

Was the trooper who was jacked up (the trooper on the left who was doing ALL the talking) and “checking” his holstered firearm the first arriving trooper or the 2nd?

When will they release the ENTIRE (i.e., from the time each trooper arrived on site) videos from BOTH troopers’ cars?

I could care less if the trooper was shoved, smacked in the face or anything else that did not threaten his life. Since the moron trooper did not understand he was dealing with non-criminal members of the public who were under great stress, he should be fired.

...

After watching the video, I’d say it was more than a shove. According to the officer giving the briefing, the officer was knocked to the ground, and a struggle ensued.

Not if my perceived risk was that by shoving me, you are prepared to take my life

I know that you know what would become of you if you shot someone for touching you, and you (as a "civilian"/peasant) tried explaining to a prosecutor that your perceived risk was that by shoving you, that someone was prepared to take your life.

Think "George Zimmerman".

"Perceived risk" only applies in "magical" situations, as in you're wearing a magic suit, with a matching shiny magic badge...

To: OK Sun

Thank you OK Sun.

Thank you for the 4 days in a row of sunshine we are enjoying now.

Not only were the Troopers doing what their commission requires, but I would not be surprised if they had flood forecasts, weather reports, and background info not known to the Fischers. I can understand the emotion with losing a vehicle in a flas flood - I’ve been there - but I would personally have never confronted a uniformed law enforcement officer. It could have gone a different way if there had been a less lively approach and conversation to get information. SPECULATION: I wonder if there was alcohol/drugs involved by the decedent. Well know if that is what turned the gentle giant (according to the Washington Post) into something else. Well know in due time.

Well, there's "Oppositional Defianct Disorder", and I've coined a name for its more deadly relative:

"Confrontational Defiant Disorder", wherein a peasant defies a confrontational Nanny state gunthug, and gets a dose of deadly lead poisoning...
