STL Dem Mayor Francis Slay seeks to raise minimum wage to $15 by 2020...

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay is looking to raise the minimum wage in the city to $15 an hour by 2020.

Missouri’s current minimum wage is $7.65 per hour.

Slay’s proposal, expected to be formalized in a bill before the Board of Aldermen by next week, would include exemptions for small businesses that employ 15 people or fewer and those that do less than $500,000 in annual sales, Alderman Shane Cohn, who’s expected to sponsor the legislation, said in an email.

“There’s obviously a lot of discussion that will be taking place in the coming weeks, and (I) look forward to hearing all perspectives and working to address the issues and concerns at hand,” Cohn said.

In Kansas City, officials have put off a public vote on whether to boost the minimum wage there to $15 an hour.

Other cities, such as Los Angeles and San Francisco, are poised to raise their minimum wages to $15 an hour.

Free-market advocates immediately criticized Slay’s proposal.

“Increasing the minimum wage will cause businesses to cut back on the number of jobs available,” Michael Rathbone, policy researcher at the Show-Me Institute, said.

Rathbone said the proposal is not an incremental increase, like Proposition B, which was passed by Missouri voters in 2006 and raised Missouri’s minimum wage to the level of the federal minimum wage.

“This is an effective doubling of the minimum wage,” Rathbone said. “You can potentially catch a lot of workers in this.”

Fight For $15, an advocacy group for fast-food workers, praised Slay’s proposal. It published a message it said was from Bettie Douglas, a McDonald’s employee in St. Louis, who said, “I work too hard and my store earns too much profit for me to use public assistance to survive and take care of my son.”

The DemonRats will stop at nothing to buy the votes of the dependent classes. All DemonRat run cities are laid waste and the takers and deceased vote on in droves. Polls remaining open well (read: Hours) past the lawful closure time. Hundreds of straight DemonRat ballots appearing out of nowhere in the final hour, in key districts, in each and every election. Republican candidates seldom demand recounts, no election judges held accountable. The stuff of Banana Republics.

And to import millions of new dependent class members to tip the demographic balance of this country into a permanent plantation majority for themselves.

Why not $25 an hour right now? If the Dems think its so good, why not $30 or $40 an hour right now?

I have no problem with this.

If leftist hell holes want to commit economic suicide, go for it!

Just abolish it at the federal level.

I applaud this! I think it’s great that Liberals voluntarily self-destruct. I hope this acts like a magnet attracts all the freeloaders to St. Louis and other liberal hell holes, looking to ride the gravy train.

the hourly salary in my prior field of presentations center operator in an investment bank has stayed the same or gone down in the past 25 years, I accept that. the pay goes from 18 to 35 depending on shift and company.
Someone who knows advanced Word, Excel, Photoshop, Illustrator and PowerPoint is worth as little as 3 dollars more than someone at McD’s?

What a stingy tightwad. If we are going to magically make money appear to pay for this $15.00/ hour wage, we should just magically make a lot more money appear so people can have an even better life.

I personally think the magic money wand ought to conjure up $100.00/ hour for people. Why be stingy?

Now if you are some kind of @$$hole who wants to point out that $100.00/ hour is unsustainable, I want to see your math that shows how you can get away with decreeing a $15.00/ hour minimum wage, cause i'm betting your opinion is entirely a product of liberal fairy tale magic, instead of some accurate understanding of reality.

People who suggest such ideas need to be humiliated for putting forth such concentrated stupidity.

They know the bad consequences of their policies, yet advocate them even more fervently.

When these people find out they no longer qualify for welfare and they have to pay taxes they will be unhappy.

This is Marxism 101. Promise a better future far enough off that you can be gone or blame it on some oppressor group. If it’s so good do it today. Nobody waits for a good thing.
