CNN POLL: GEORGE W. BUSH MORE POPULAR THAN SINKING BARACK OBAMA

John Nolte

EXCERPT...

...Bush’s favorability increase — his first in positive territory since leaving office — is likely due to two things. First, Bush has been nothing but a class act as a former president. He has stayed out of the public eye, except to further the causes like those of America’s wounded warriors. He’s removed himself completely from politics. People appreciate a class act, and Bush has been nothing but.

Secondly, Bush’s approval numbers were primarily dragged down by the Iraq War. In hindsight, though, the American people are now seeing that conflict now through a contextual prism they did not have before.

As in all wars, major mistakes were made in Iraq. It is only in the television era, especially the 24/7 cable era, that this historical fact of conflict has been turned into something unique and a disqualifier. Nevertheless, Bush won the war in Iraq. The surge won the war in Iraq.

“It’s harder to end a war than begin one. Indeed, everything that American troops have done in Iraq -– all the fighting and all the dying, the bleeding and the building, and the training and the partnering -– all of it has led to this moment of success. Now, Iraq is not a perfect place. It has many challenges ahead. But we’re leaving behind a sovereign, stable and self-reliant Iraq, with a representative government that was elected by its people. We’re building a new partnership between our nations.

“This is an extraordinary achievement, nearly nine years in the making.”

That is not Bush announcing the Iraq War a success, that is President Obama … just before he lost the war in an election year gambit by removing all of our troops.....

People appreciate a class act

I don't think Bill Clinton was particularly shy about sounding off during Bush's eight, and he's been all over the media for the Obama zoo.

And Jimmy Carter can't keep his fool mouth shut. The more trouble he can make, the more he shoots his mouth off.

I don't see either of these pieces-of-work suffering in the polls.

They’re going to have to re-calibrate Cheney’s defibulator.

While I did not agree with Bush on several issues, I would say that I have not seen a president with that much integrity since his father ran. And frankly, I think he had more integrity than his father.

Obama, Clinton, Nixon and Kennedy all have an, ends justify the means, approach to lying, getting elected, smearing, and using the government to attach their enemies.

I wish Bush would have defended himself. I wish he would have explained himself. But he seemed to believe that he should never speak badly of his enemies and he needed only to explain once. My opinion is that some topics are too important to let them go undefended.

Agree with you 99.9%

Few men have been true American heroes with the integrity of the father Bush. His was another case of failing to adequately defend himself.

Those here who don’t agree, I’m glad I didn’t have Dukakis, Gore and Kerry to precede Obama.

It's obvious that the headline has a mistake in it, and I will magnanimously correct it.

“Islam is a religion of peace.”

George Bush is so far down on the integrity chart that he taints each and every defender he has.
Zero exceptions.

He fully earned his mockery and they have too.

Nobody could remain uneducated about that through two presidential terms. Nobody who can tie their shoes can be too stupid to understand what Islam is.

That leaves a lack of integrity and no other options, either for George Bush or his defenders.

This is going to keep Obama up at night.

No it won't. He has one job to do, and he is doing it well. He's going to gum up the works as much as he possibly can, sinking popularity ratings not withstanding.

No assessment of GW Bush and his presidency will be complete before the 9-11 Commission’s classified “28 pages” are released. If they show his administration covered up, in any way, for Saudis involved in the worst-ever terrorist attack on our homeland, then no amount of wounded-veteran visiting, or puppy and clown painting will salvage his reputation.

No, He’s waiting for President Cruz before he visit the White House. He doesn’t want to legitimize the Muslim from Kenya in the White House.

The Bushes in my mind and retrospection have been as much concerned with protecting and solidifying the Saudi control part of world financial and oil markets as they have been with keeping the US faithful to the Founders conception and hopes for the US. That the Saudis keep their Islamic cultural bedrock going back to the days of supporting Hitler’s Nazi Germany should be warning enough about their love for the US. The Bush family can gloss over the past but as a vet of WWII I see things of history in a different light than what some others do.

George W. Bush was a great President and a great man. You’re the one lacking integrity.

I Agree that Islam is an abomination, and hardly a religion of peace, but I didn’t think that on 9/10. W was just trying to prevent the kind of hysteria that led to an overreaction like what happened to the Japanese after Pearl Harbor.
