McConnell backs away from judicial shutdown talk

Mitch McConnell is denying there’s a shutdown on President Obama’s federal court nominees —despite comments the Senate majority leader made on Thursday indicating such a freeze.

The clarification comes as several of McConnell’s GOP colleagues are working with the administration to fill circuit-court vacancies affecting their home states.

In an interview with the conservative Hugh Hewitt show on Thursday, McConnell (R-Ky.) noted that the Senate so far this year has only confirmed federal district court nominees who had support from Republican senators. McConnell then predicted the trend would continue.

“And do you expect that that will continue to be the case for the balance of this session?” Hewitt asked.

“I think that’s highly likely, yeah,” McConnell responded.

But McConnell spokesman Don Stewart says that doesn’t mean Obama will not get another appellate pick confirmed before he leaves office.

“He said nothing of the sort. He said we’re going to continue to do judges. There’s not a shutdown,” Stewart said. “We probably will have a circuit court nominee.”

Strategists on both sides say they do not expect a vacancy on the Supreme Court before Obama steps down.

Ruth Bader Ginsberg, 82, is the oldest justice and has had recent health problems, but has indicated no plans to retire.

That will leave the battles over nominees at the circuit court level.

Mitch always backs down from a fight...unless it's a fight with conservatives, which he will enthusiastically gear himself up for, and fight tooth and nail.

Mitch has four gears in reverse and one forward just in case Obama gets behind him.

See how the media frames it?

Now it’s a Judicial Shutdown. Then it will be a an ObamaCare shutdown. Then and EPA regulatory shutdown. Then an Immigration Reform Shutdown.

Hang on, Ruth. We need you to make it a few more years. We don’t want a man named Hussein putting another on the bench.

In 2014 Conservatives were told they had to support Congressional Republicans in order to stop Obama. In 2015 Congressional Republicans support Obama to stop Conservatives. Why should Conservatives come out in 2016? What have the Republicans delivered for their support? In 2016 they're planning on primaring most Conservatives out of their seats so they are in our corner how? They have a majority in both Houses but have to adapt the Democrats agenda in order to “get things done in Washington.” Is that your agenda? To quote Kang “Only a fool fights in a burning house!”

The real question is why would any republican want an Obama appointee to fill a vacancy in the Federal injustice system?

"Now it’s a Judicial Shutdown. Then it will be a an ObamaCare shutdown. Then and EPA regulatory shutdown. Then an Immigration Reform Shutdown".

It is good to see someone is reading the MSM's intent correctly! Sarcastic quips do little to stop this conservative slide into complete abandonment of GOP principals.....hold the remarks and CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES you hired them; they work for you!

McConnell backs away from judicial shutdown talk

McConnell (dodering old fool) always makes grand pronouncements about opposing 0bama's agenda, but later quietly bends over willingly (probably after Hussein reminds him of the dirt he has on him).

Thats been the story of Mitch as Senate leader. Unless ofcourse it is a conservative he is going against.

What we need is an actual conservative as President in 2017, to get Mitch to do the right thing.
