When you have reason to believe one of your daughters fondled one of her sisters, you are also calling the police, right ? When one of your daughters gives a controlled substance to one of your daughters you are calling the police, right ? When one of your teenagers engages in any sexual activity with another teenager, you are calling the police, right ? You want to be certain, after all, that you are not condoning any illegal activity and the authorities are always the best to decide if a crime has been committed and to take all involved into custody for protection and reform.

I’m not sure that you are not right in general; it is that I can see the parents confronting this horrible tragedy and trying to save all their children. If it had not worked, then it is easy to look back and say they should have abandoned him to his fate. No doubt he deserved it. Is mercy, when it works, the better for the entire family, perps as well as victims ?
The same principle applies with abortion. A repentant woman who killed her unborn child need not be ostracized as she once was, or is that a mistake ?
