Can gays and Christians co-exist in America? As the saying goes, “Can this marriage be saved?” I still hope the answer is yes. But for now, it is very much up in the air—and the answer is no longer in Christians’ hands.
This is a provocative thesis on a sensitive topic, one many of us would rather not face. I had long hoped not to return to writing at any length about this issue, especially not when conservatives are winning so many other arguments these days, and this is one that persuades few people who have not already made up their minds.
While I have written repeatedly on efforts to enact same-sex marriage through the courts, I have never lifted a finger on fights to address the issue through the democratic political process, where it belongs—in part because same-sex marriages, if recognized by legislation, are never likely to crack 1 percent of all marriages, and so will by themselves have little impact on our society. Moreover, many of my allies on the Right and personal friends are gay or are supporters of same-sex marriage, and one hates to pick at the scab of a losing political fight that divides coalitions and alienates old friends.
I agonized a very long time over how to fairly present this essay, which may explain some of its length (it will run in five parts this week).
But sometimes, both truth and faith demand a defense when under assault, and I also have many friends and allies who are religious believers and despair that nobody is telling their side of the story.

I cant imagine this issue matters enough to the 97 percent who aren’t gay to sway their presidential vote. there are so many more important things going on. but then I forget there are a lot of idiots and dupes in the country.
Are they, thru the gov, going to force our church to marry them and Christian businesses cater their ‘weddings’? Then, no.
Greater than 98 percent are not gay, per the CDC.
And this call for peaceful “coexistence” is reminiscent of how all the liberals wanted the USA to coexist with the “second world” (communist bloc) decades ago.

In a separate thread, a Pew Poll tells us that Blacks in general are OPPOSED to gay marriage by at least 10 percentage points.
But consider this...
1) Blacks are mostly opposed to gay marriage
Yet;
2) 90% of blacks ( that includes devout Christians ) continue to vote Democrat, the party that’s PUSHING gay marriage on America.
THEREFORE, I conclude that even when they are opposed to gay marriage, they don’t really care if its shoved down the country’s throat because in the scheme of things, it’s not really that important to them.
The money they can get out of big government is paramount.
Sure, we just can’t be in church together.
I'd say that with the exception of a small minority on both sides who are determined not to make it work the answer is yes.
I didn’t think about it from that angle, but wow, you’re right. I’m just hoping white moderates couldn’t possibly be swayed on such an absurd issue.
Part of butt hole sex agenda is to destroy religion.
The answer is yes. But its up to the radical homosexuals as to whether it happens. If the radical homosexuals leave well enough alone! And stop suing over wedding cakes , and refrain from suing churches over homosexual marriage, then we can all coexist.
Its not devout Christians trying to force homosexuals out of public life and impose a certain litmus test on people. Its the radical homosexuals who picked this fight in the first place.
I am much too tired to plow through that whole thing, but co-existence has occurred throughout our history. Now, gays don’t want co-existence, they want supremacy, submission, and ultimately the destruction of Christianity. That is just one dynamic tearing away at America.
And the rest will go happily back to the closet for the next 500 or so years.
That is up to the gays and the gaystapo. The gaystapo does not want to coexist. They want Christianity criminalized. Christians “go where the sinners are.”
Puleeeze spare us the other four parts!

I think by “coexist”, he means not criminalizing gays or their lifestyle and even allowing them to “marry” as long as Christians themselves are not forced by law to participate in these lifestyle or “marriages”.
I think most Christians can live with that.
Christians believe that no amount of legislation can make a person moral. Only a changed heart caused by an acceptance of the truth of the gospel can.
What Christians really want is NOT to be forced by law or litigation to participate in the gay lifestyle.
If such protection is possible, then yes, co-existence is possible ( However, I highly doubt it based on the extreme reaction to a reasonable law like RFRA ).
Here’s a hint:
“Coexist” does NOT mean “support, promote, endorse, approve, or incorporate”!!!
There would not be a problem if they would recall the "...nor prohibit the free exercise thereof." part of the 1st Amendment.
Of course, it gets treacly when the government wants to impose a requirement that Christians (and I include Catholics, especially) fund abortion, abortifacients, and such, so the Government has the GiBLeT set take point in the press so It will seem like the push for universal funding of abortion, etc. will be permitted by precedents infringing on the First Amendment Rights of the populace imposed by court rulings that favor the poor, misunderstood, gays. (yeah, there is some sarcasm there).
Heck, they may even get the sheeple to fall for that crap.
But if gays think Christians are hard to get along with, just wait until they are dealing with the Muslims.

Sure. If the fags leave the Christians alone. If they keep pressing them, a line WILL be drawn, and it’s the fags’ battle to lose.
