Republicans in Congress are worried the Supreme Court will hand them a major headache this month if it rules against the federal health insurance exchanges in more than 30 states, ending subsidies for millions of people.
While the Affordable Care Act remains broadly unpopular, two new polls show a majority of Americans don’t want to do away with its subsidies, a core component of the law.
This poses a conundrum for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Speaker John Boehner. They are under pressure from colleagues up for reelection in swing states and districts to extend the subsidies, at least temporarily, if the court strikes them down. But doing so would risk a backlash from the conservative base. The Supreme Court is expected to hand down its decision in King v. Burwell, which could strip 6.4 million people of health insurance subsidies, in late June.
States that would be hardest hit by a ruling against the law include Senate battlegrounds of Illinois, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin.
“The politics of the King vs. Burwell case are extremely treacherous and tricky for Republicans because if the subsidies are thrown out by the court, Republicans are in the position of having to create a fix that would be seen as a problem by their most conservative supporters,” said John Ullyot, a GOP strategist and former senior Senate aide.
A new Washington Post/ABC News poll found that a majority of the public, 55 percent, does not want the court to block federal subsidies for people in states that have not set up their own exchanges. Only 38 percent said they wanted the subsidies ended.
“It does create a political problem for the GOP because there could be millions of people who got health insurance as a result of ObamaCare who lose it,”

Will they listen to the American people and dismantle Obamacare and replace it with the former program, modified to correct its few shortcomings, or not.

Congress should permanently adjourn. It really serves no purpose other than being a stage for endless political theater. That is one reason why polls show congress has such dismal approval ratings. The other reason is that its a complete joke.
I have to say I feel blessed because on a fluke (or an angel on my shoulder)... I took out LTD for the first time in my life (always felt long term disability would never be a prob) If I hadn't, I would be totally cooked.

Yep. My Ortho and his associates will take nothing less than BCBS ins or cash... and some other Drs in different fields have gone to cash only basis. Older, more experienced Dr's are retiring to get out of the debacle. We're fast reaching critical mass.

Of course the establishment repubs don’t want Obolacare to be gutted - they want to run it and claim some of the swag for themselves.
Fear? Seems as if this very same mantra has been promulgated by many lefty media outlets for at least a month now as the SCOTUS decision is eagerly awaited. So why is the lefty media running this line again and again?
First, they are hopeful that the SCOTUS will take notice of the anger that might be manifested among the subsidy recipients if they rule in favor of the plaintiffs, so the "Republicans fear" line is serving as a form of intimidation directed at the probable "swing" justice on this case (Kennedy).
And even if that gambit fails and the federal subsidies are thrown out by the Court, the lefty media is pressuring the RINOS in Congress to restore the federal subsidies with new legislation to allow them, at least until the next presidential election.
Rather than succumb to this media intimidation campaign, the GOP majorities in both houses of Congress should repeal Obamacare in its entirety and put the repeal bill on Obama's desk, so he can veto it. If that happens, it can only hurt the 'Rats in the 2016 election, because polling has indicated that ever since its passage, Obamacare is unpopular among the majority of American people.
My US House rep Rob Woodall had breakfast with Scalia some months ago and he told us in a townhall that Scalia said the court was growing weary of doing Congress’ job for them.
I wouldn't expect you to know what case(s) Scalia was referring to when he made the remark, but I don't think he was referring to the pendant case which is the subject of this thread.
The current ObamaCare case is NOT about the Court legislating, it's about the Court interpreting the Obamacare statute, specifically deciding the issue of whether it gives the federal government the power to fund subsidies for ObamaCare policies not purchased through state exchanges. The text of the statute, as far as I'm aware, does not provide for such subsidies, yet the Obama Administration is subsidizing nonetheless.

Yes, those who are being subsidized by Obamacare are going to vote predominantly 'Rat anyway.
One of the problems with many Republicans in Congress is that no matter who put them in office, they come under the spell of RINO political consultants, like the one quoted in the posted article.
