County orders union boss to work, citing new law

Clark County management has ordered Martin Bassick, president of the Service Employees International Union Local 1107, to report for work at a county job in a move that reflects the county’s interpretation of a new state law concerning paid leave for union representatives.

The county’s human resources department notified Bassick in a letter Thursday to report at his county public works job at 8 a.m. Monday, according to correspondence obtained by the Review-Journal. The letter cites a bill that the Legislature passed this session and Gov. Brian Sandoval signed into law. An attorney for the SEIU, the county’s largest union, disputes the county’s interpretation of the law and has requested negotiations with the county to resolve the matter.

Bassick confirmed Monday that he reported to his job as a plans checker for public works as instructed, speaking to a Review-Journal reporter while on his lunch break.

“I just received this letter out of the blue,” Bassick said, adding that no one from the county talked to him before he received it.

County spokeswoman Stacey Welling declined to comment Monday.

I am sure that he has not the slightest idea about actually working. Hating your boss is s full time job, you know.

Don't be silly. There was no requirement for "an honest day's work". They were required to simply SHOW UP. :)
I don't believe those SEIU thugs would know an honest day's work if it bit them on the butt.

LOL! The president of the SEIU collective has to actually work? Do something productive?

HOORAY Nevada legislature and Brian Sandoval.

Now states…go ahead and ask POSOTUS to work…to do something productive…not underhanded, opaque, deceptive.

I sure am glad Virginia does not allow public employee unions.

Notice the SEIU attorney is “requesting Negotiations”, not “Filing a lawsuit”?

“We’ll trade you half of the next scheduled union employee wage increase, if he is available for the 2016 Democrat Campaign.”

Negotiating what, special treatment? The law is the law. "Negotiating" around that used to be called bribery.

The last SEIU 1107 President “Gifted” a bunch of “Paid Compensatory Time” to his top staffers, totaling around $48,000 in Union funds, just after his election defeat.

That was in the old America.
This is the new “Fundamentally-Transformed” Amerika.

I am really surprised, if any city is worse than Las Vegas for union thugery, I don’t know what it is. Just try to be an exhibitor at a convention there. You can’t pick up a screwdriver or plug something in with out a union “craft person” and their minder.

SEIU attorney Michael Urban said the county’s letter demanding Bassick’s return to the county workplace is “unreasonable,”

LOL. I'm surprised he didn't claim cruel and unusual punishment too.

I understand a working lead man but not a working foreman/supervisor. Yes, lead men are supervisors so to speak but that is not like a foreman/supervisor.Looking forward to non blue collar workers and their comments.

Too bad they don’t allow federal employee unions. No difference.

This guy is the president of the local union shop and is expected to work? Wow. I was in a union years ago. “The Int’l Hod Carriers and Common building Laborers union” or something like that. The shop steward was a sneaky. slick downed guy that also ran the numbers racket on the job site.
My impression of ALL union officials is that they are pukes that live off the labors of the members.
