Burwell: Obama wouldn´t sign GOP plan to extend insurance subsidies
Reuters ^ | 6/10/15 | Susan Cornwell

U.S. President Barack Obama would not sign a Republican plan to extend subsidies for buying insurance under Obamacare if the Supreme Court rules against such assistance in the pending King v. Burwell case, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell said on Wednesday. The proposal, offered by Republican Senator Ron Johnson and has 31 Republican co-sponsors, would extend the insurance subsidies until August 2017. But Burwell said the measure would also take away the subsidies over time and repeal important components of Obamacare such as guaranteeing insurance for Americans with pre-existing health conditions.

Obamacare has financially hurt my family and yours.

Anyone that would continue hurting my family and yours should be voted out of political office.

That’s one game of Chicken I’d like to see. Go ahead and veto it, let the subsidies end. I think he’s bluffing.

The position serves as notice that the administration intends on blaming the party that had NO input, NO concurring votes, gave NO support and has had NO implementing authority for the catastrophe that is WLB’s signature achievement. I think Republicans will roll over in fear.

It is all theater...he knows it will be upheld or he would not be out bellowing his crap about it now so he can look like the leader he is NOT. This guy NEVER takes any chances. I love how he put the fact he has no plan for Iraq: the military has not presented a plan I can go with. A great military tactician in the relm of Hitler rather than a leader who says these are the parameters to what I want so put together a military stategy to get me there.

Because that's how Kabuki theater works.

I would postulate that the pressure to patch the subsidies short term would be enough to provide a veto proof vote in the Legislature. I would love to see that POS veto a bill and then have it overridden.

I think it is just theatre. He already knows that SCOTUS will uphold him no matter how twisted their logic. The only question is whether Kennedy or Roberts (maybe both) provide the swing votes.

McConnell and Boehner are sewing their white underwear together as we speak, getting the flag ready.

Ordinarily I would agree, but I think this is different. I think Obama is so convinced and conditioned to believe that the Repugs will fold, he does not see it as a bluff. He just considers it a step in the process of getting what he wants.
