I have trouble taking anybody seriously who doesn't know the difference between "affect" and "effect."

Either word would be correct in this sentence.

And, of course, the plural of Saudi is Saudis, not Saudi’s.

All it proves is that Stone really needs a proofreader.

I was about to say the same thing. It drastically changes the tone and meaning of the sentence, depending on which is used. I doubt the author realized this...
