From the size of many of them, I think an “s” is missing.

Yup, let’s see..., let’s invest and build stores, where, the the locals riot and set fires, the Mayor tells the police to stand down..

Appears grocery stores chose to not locate in high robbery & violent areas.

Common Cense 101.

My closest Market is maybe more than a 1/4 and I have walked there many times to get stuff. It is good exercise but albeit without the bullets and cross fire.

“”When we look at many of our neighborhoods, there are life-expectancy disparities as much as 20 years,” Rawlings-Blake said.”

Clearly this is due to a lack of broccoli and acai berries.

Most major grocery chains operate on very thin margins. All it takes is a few regular shoplifters to result in the store operating at a loss, which means it must close.

Do you want a local store in your neighborhood, one that will provide a variety of food on an ongoing basis?

Then don’t rip it off.

researchers defined food deserts as areas where distance to a supermarket exceeds a quarter-mile????!

I am 1 mile from a supermarket. A mile! Someone buy me a car!
I do have a car but after paying the car payment and for the gas and insurance, I do not have as much money as I want to buy the steak I deserve.

No steak! No justice!

That gives them a little extra “room to destroy.”

I had the same reaction - quarter mile away, and it's a desert?

Whatever it takes to get the liberals to cry in their Wheaties.

The obvious solution is to force white owned companies to open stores in those neighborhoods, refurbish the burned out ones. /sarc

When I was a kid in Minnesota I would walk to the local Byerlys. It too was about a mile as was the Tom Thumb. Now as an adult I own a car because I have a job. Something these people refuse to do. They are waiting for free obamacars.

Are food deserts the same as global warming and acidic ocean?
What next for a crisis?
