Well, I guess they could take ownership of their communities. Do things like, I dunno, form watch groups; cooperate with law enforcement and report criminal behavior; meet your neighbors, work together...

Things like that. Who knows! The supermarkets might come back! What do you say, inner black neighborhoods?

My closest Market is maybe more than a 1/4 and I have walked there many times to get stuff. It is good exercise but albeit without the bullets and cross fire.

Then you have to run then , do I have to come up with all the answers

How sad. Now that the grocery stores in the ‘hood have been burned down the shoplifters cannot find food to steal.

Most of the entire civilized world is a food desert by this definition. I have lived in 6 major cities and never been closer than a mile from the nearest food market, including Baltimore. One of the most wonderful markets in the east is in downtown Baltimore. The Lexington market was always my destination of choice for food. I took public transportation 5 miles to get there. More stupidity from the bastion of ignorance.

No business is going to put their $$$$$ in a place like that. Enjoy the desert Baltimore even though a good walk would do most of the obese EBT card types a bit of good.

I sure don’t want to buy their food. That is communism. They should obtain education and good diction and pursue the American Dream like the rest of us or they can rot in the street, I will not pay them not to riot.

Screw these idiots. They destroy everything around them and then complain. Lets see how they do with the shortage of police protection they bitched about.

I live in a booze desert. The state has the liquor racket and the nearest ABC store is a good 7 miles away.

“Appears grocery stores chose to not locate in high robbery & violent areas.”

High robbery & violent areas are code words for black people.

RACIST!

Most Safeway and Giant food stores have a pharmacy section, thus those were probably targeted as well to get the drugs.

“or they pilfer them below break even and they eventually close up”

This is a common occurance here in Indy. They get a retail grocery to locate in those areas. The trucks come to deliver the stock and the food often gets stolen right off the truck.

We have empty buildings just sitting there.

0.25 mile? A quarter mile is 1320 feet. A city block is 900 feet. So they want a grocery store on every block?

I suspect it’s easy to get a free bus pass. While visiting SF it was easy to get off the bus, get a day or two’s food, catch another bus and go miles to where we were staying.

While traveling, buy your beer in Wisc. before stopping in Minn. The whole state is a booze desert.
