I'd agree that stigmatizing the children of unwed mothers (as opposed to the mothers themselves) is wrong, they did nothing wrong.
As to the mothers, we seem to have gone full circle. What was once a source of shame now seems to be a source of pride. I don't know how many times I've heard women say with pride "I'm a single mother," as though it were some great achievement.

It may seem counter-intuitive, but nonmarital childbearing and abortion very often go up in tandem. The availability of legal abortion erodes women's motivation to say no to casual sex; so many more unintended conceptions occur. If the number of unintended pregnancies rises, both abortion and nonmarital childbearing rise in tandem.
In every scenario, the "invisible" factor is the male. Nobody takes seriously the possibility of a man restraining his own random lust. It's as if women get pregnant all by themselves.

“Get the pill, its affordable, especially if you stop wasting money on malt liquor, cigs, and lip gloss. “
Yeah....plus the cigs & lip gloss are small enough to steal anyway.

The problem is Shaniqua has every incentive to have a baby: she can get child support for life from Jamal, and not have to even deal with Jamal’s moodiness!
If child support were reserved for divorces only, and not for one-night-stands as well, would there be as many “unwed mothers?”
Unintended consequences of well meaning gov’t policy, as usual.
