I understand the bill has some good stuff, but any “process” which gives the POTUS an advantage, an opportunity to continue his nefarious work deconstructing the nation, must not pass. I do not, Americans do not trust him, not a bit. Save it for 2017.

Why would Obama want to put the congress “in charge” of trade? Why would he want to dilute his own power? Why this sudden burst of desire to share power with the congress? It just doesn’t pass the smell test. No, its another one of his power grabs that the gullible Republicans have bought into because their pals in the chamber of commerce want it.

Why in the hell don't these two idiots just post the entire trade legislation and let the American people decide for themselves what they want or don't want!

Instead, we get articles likes this telling us what it will or won't do! Does anyone believe a word of it?

I certainly don't!

Post the legislation on-line for thirty days then we will discuss whether the American people think it is in their best interest to support it or not!

The House should never authorize the formation of a new international commission that will regulate not only trade, but immigration, labor, environmental, and all manner of commercial policy.

None of us voted last year for this kind of legislation. It’s about time our Congress put the country’s own citizens ahead of their own greed.

Freepers, please use discernment when you see hit-job posts like this.

I posted the original Op-Ed myself back in April to send up the red false, and so posting it again is not a hit job, but a simple "we told you so!"

And we did.

Listening to these guys prognosticate about how good it is going to be when this pile of secret horsepuckey is adopted/passed, or whatever new procedure they want to use to ram it down our throats, is laughable. If it is so great then why the heck can’t we see it?

I was with Cruz but now he can pound sand. I don’t care how smart he is, or whether he truly believes this is a great trade path forward. It is aiding and abetting the serial liar that is currently POTUS, and that alone should be enough to sh-tcan it.

Congress has repeatedly failed to act to make Obama accountable on any issue. Cruz is either tone deaf or insincere if he can justify any act that gives any authority to the office of the president.
The democrats are so much more politically astute as to get all the credit for stopping the deal and then making the republicans responsible for it’s complete failure when it passes.
The republicans had the same potential with Obamacare, but were sold out by their leadership. Pelosi screws Bohner again!

The Senate version of TPA includes TAA which cuts an additional $750,000,000 from Medicare on top of the $500,000,000 Democrats cut from Medicare to pay for Obamacare.

Medicare is already underfunded and the underfunding gets worse as the babyboomers turn 65.

A vote for TPA with TAA included is a vote against Medicare. It also gives Democrats cover for the Obamacare cuts to Medicare.

TPA should not pass until TAA is removed.

CRITICAL error by Cruz on this. Getting the stench of Paul Ryan on him will take a tremendous amount of effort to wash off.

He needs to quickly and distinctly elaborate to conservatives what in the hell he is doing here.

“Post the legislation on-line for thirty days then we will discuss whether the American people think it is in their best interest to support it or not!”

Amen!
These bass turds ought to live by the laws they pass.
For instance, Fair credit law requires full disclosure of terms and financial detail for a contract between parties.
TPP / TPA has Huge repercussions affecting Trillions of dollars of trade, and millions of US jobs over time.
Who do they think they are to conceal Anything from their employers?!
March on DC to tell’em - when they feel the heat, they see the light...

Mr. Cruz is one of the casualties in the TPP fiasco.
He had a slim but plausible chance to become President and help the country.
The only support for secrecy is coming from Mainstream Republicans.
Show us the bill.
Don't buy a pig in a sack, whatever the glib rationale.
Not these bills, not this President, not now and not in secret.
Show us the bill.
And keep calling your Representatives.

I’ll stick with Sessions, who does not have an election agenda and a need to appeal to big donors. An advantage of coming from a small state.

Exactly what part of the Constitution precludes Congress establishing up/down simple majority votes?

Exactly what part of the Constitution precludes Congress establishing up/down simple majority votes?

Article 2,Section 2, Clause 2: [The President] shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur

That part.

Fast Track should be unconstitutional. But the SCOTUS agreed that Congress can re-define trade agreements as separate from treaties, allowing them to write their own rules for approval.

This is the same tired argument they always use to stick another odious trade agreement on us. The end result never changes. Additional trade deficits, loss of American jobs, factories leaving the USA and an influx of questionable products from other countries.

These trade agreements always benefit the weakest member to the detriment of the strongest.

If Ted Cruz is looking to shore up his conservative support teaming with Paul Ryan is a poor idea.
