New government research shows that female military veterans commit suicide at nearly six times the rate of other women, a startling finding that experts say poses disturbing questions about the backgrounds and experiences of women who serve in the armed forces.
Their suicide rate is so high that it approaches that of male veterans, a finding that surprised researchers because men generally are far more likely than women to commit suicide.
"It's staggering," said Dr. Matthew Miller, an epidemiologist and suicide expert at Northeastern University who was not involved in the research. "We have to come to grips with why the rates are so obscenely high."
Though suicide has become a major issue for the military over the last decade, most research by the Pentagon and the Veterans Affairs Department has focused on men, who account for more than 90 percent of the nation's 22 million former troops. Little has been known about female veteran suicide.

dealing with a group that is 90 percent of men mostly in their twenties and thirties and probably coming from broken families and turning to the military to escape could be reasons. Either way the military should not be for social tinkering.
I wonder if other male-dominated, highly demanding, careers show a similar uptick in suicides by women.
Maybe there needs to be help for all veterans after their service. The VA hasn't improved. Their medical needs are not being met. Supposedly, instead of helping veterans, they are drugging them. I imagine that it's hard to find a job whether man or woman. The elitists don't want to hire veterans.
Educate yourself. Women have been fighting alongside men since 2700 BC when the Sumerians took it to the Elamites!

The female is not suited for the military. Not physically, where they suffer pelvic fractures from marching, and all kinds of injuries from over taxing their female bodies, to this.
The ladies don’t belong there.
Get real, females have tagged along with armies for obvious camp duties, which we don’t need now, we have those services covered.
If females are equal to men, then we can save money on food, by making the Marine Corps, 100% female with no loss.

outside “experts” will give all the wrong answers. Only the women who have been separated from the service have a clue.
Have fifty or so randomly selected to meet for three days in some remote place and then listen to them.
My opinion is that women are just not in their environment in combat forces. They probably know it from book camp until mustered out and inwardly feel failure, have not lived up to their own expectations, inadequacy, etc.
I don’t understand either the male, or the female suicide rates. Why? Is it because they give all for their country, and then watch as the politicians give it all to the enemy they just fought, and watched their brother’s, and sister’s in arms die for?

Half true. It just comes down to motivation. If I were the top general at the Pentagon, I would make this declaration: “any woman soldier who kills terrorists will get a coupon from Kohl’s, Target, Louis Vuitton and Sephora.”
I betcha we would wipe out ISIS. Have you been to Black Friday at Nordstrom’s? The women were ready to tear each other to pieces.
