Somehow, I don’t think Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will be re-elected. So much for this particular rising star being inflicted on the rest of the country.

Isn’t this kind of what they’ve asked for? A soft police force? Well, they got it, and now they are having buyer’s remorse. Sorry about that.

Punish the behavior you want to eliminate.
Reward the behavior you want to increase.
Baltimore punishes proactive police work.
Baltimore rewards corruption, rioters and looters.
No surprises here...

Tough poop. The cops are there to protect everyone, even lowlife thugs. They are throwing cops in jail to sacrifice them to the great god of political correctness. Too bad. Baltimore is getting what it deserves.

That is because it is too dangerous for even the perps to be out after dark.

Maybe the people of Baltimore should have thought a little more about that when they elected their mayor.
So much of the recent actions and people in Baltimore seem to be right out of the HBO series,
The Wire [2002-2008]. That series was set in Baltimore and was primarily about the local politicians, local perps and their crime trades, and the police.
==
The Wire, being on cable, was rough in action and language. HBO has recently released a high def version.

We lost the war on this. Send the helicopters, pull our people out and be done.

Historically there is a 3rd option: Vigilantees. But if the people of Baltimore thought Police were violent — just wait.

Mr Patel in the story is asking too much for a couple of sodas that were probably past their pull date, anyway. The cops could have accepted his suspicion, backed up by nothing, and found the guy for questioning. He might even have been carrying an illegal weapon or been in violation of probation. That would have been “aggressive policing” and might have taken a criminal off the street.
But since they would have had no probable cause, given no security camera pictures of him, in Baltimore today, the police would have been the ones arrested.
Mr Patel should get a real security camera instead of the cheap bit of plastic he has now, before he complains about the police.

I don’t believe there were any arrests or even a cop in my neighborhood in May, yet there were no reports of violent crimes that month.
