A Maryland DJ has refused to work a birthday party for a gay man...
Washington Post ^ | 6/12/15 | Michelle Boorstein

First there was the New Mexico wedding photographer. Then there was the Indiana pizza maker. Now there is the Maryland disc jockey.

The national debate about how to balance religious conscience protections and gay equality flared in the large, mostly liberal Washington, D.C., suburb of Montgomery County Friday, when Dani Tsakounis tried to help her brother hire Ultrasound Deejays for a party. An owner of the business told Tsakounis he would not provide the DJ because Tsakounis’s brother, a Silver Spring therapist, is married to another man and the birthday party they are hosting is for their 60-year-old roommate, who is also gay.

“I just said, ‘We won’t be able to do it, we’re a Christian organization and it would go against our faith, I’m sorry,’” Michael Lampiris, co-owner of Ultrasound Deejays, said Friday.

Tom Tsakounis, 46, was so upset when his sister told him that he posted the news on his neighborhood listserv, prompting calls of sympathy from neighbors. He also registered a complaint with the Montgomery County Human Rights Commission, which hears cases of alleged discrimination.

Got sanctimony? People discriminate every day on a wide variety of issues. This is an easy one for me.

The DJ should just have a policy of refusing to play certain songs such as ‘YMCA’ or ‘In the navy’ and he will be left alone.

But it appears that he refuses to provide DJs for any event that has non-Christian activity.

How selective is his "non-Christian activity"? For example, will they work a birthday party or wedding or any other event for a couple where one or the other has been married before? By doing so isn't he condoning adultery?

This business owner is just a bigot.

So are you, except you are an anti-Christian bigot.

It says specifically on their (Ultrasound DJs) website that they will not play events for gays.

Here is their website. Where does it say that?

I was speaking from the context of the article, having to work for or do business with someone that goes against my business plan or beliefs. We have freedom of choice and conscience nominally still but the progressives like you would take that away!

As for your response, I see the logic of Judas Iscariot behind it...a puffed up nose up in the air supercilious attitude. Ohhhh you wouldn’t associate with sinners....oooooooo!=”ought not that perfume had been sold and given to the pooor?”(Judas criticism of Christ to which Christ replied, ironically now given the history of Judas,”She was preparing me for my burial!”)

Have you ever personally witnessed a gay party? Their behavior is utterly disgusting. Given the choice, I would avoid it like the plague.

And yet you appear to have been to a bunch of them since you seem to be speaking from experience.

Why don’t the DJs simply create a contract that says if the behavior turns inappropriate (as the DJs define it), the DJs will leave?

Since it’s Montgomery County he will probably get 20 years to life.

It's a poorly designed website, IMO.

This business owner is just a bigot

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a bigot if you are correct. And this business owner is correct.

Using words like "bigot" or "racist" to force someone to support something that is abomination to them is a leftist tactic.

Supporting a celebration of homosexuality in any manner is against his religion.

Nice try. Anyone who’s seen the at bars and nightclubs knows their behavior, unless of course they’re blind.

Note to all gay dumba$$e$:

There is more than one DJ, bakery, or florist in your town. Try the others.

Unless you are trying to be offended for profit.

> So the DJ doesn’t want to cater to homosexuals period? You have to give him credit for being honest about it.

Wonder what would happen if a Christian tried hiring a gay DJ and madd him play Christian music all night long? I bet you would hear that a Christian bigot “forced” a gay to do something against his beliefs and there would be a lawsuit filed.

This is NOT the sale of an object.

This is the demand for participation in an environment he finds disgusting and personally disapproves of.

“Consider that a DJ was hired to do a pedophile orgy with numerous children in attendance.”

Was Bill Clinton there?

I assume you forgot the sarcasm tag at the end of your post.

As a Christian, I will not attend a homosexual wedding or birthday party. Doing so is giving tacit approval to a behavior which I find abhorrent.

That’s not to say that I find the person abhorrent. I work closely with a few homosexuals and we work well together. Their choices are their choices, but I don’t have to support them.

Forcing the DJ to provide a party atmosphere at an event where he is sure to be uncomfortable is wrong.

This is the kind of garbage the Washington Post considers news. Meanwhile, every year hundreds of thousands of people in DC march for life, but the Post can’t bother to cover the demonstration.

You may want to re-read certain portions of the Scripture. Associating with sinners never includes celebrating their sin or saying it’s OK.

By forcing this Christian man to celebrate aberrant and sinful behavior, they are making him go 180 degrees against his beliefs, which are clearly delineated on their website.
