Rep. Darrell Issa Escorted Out of Congressional Panel on Benghazi

Outspoken Republican Congressman Darrell Issa tried to crash a deposition Tuesday on Benghazi, but was promptly escorted out from the closed-door panel on Capitol Hill.

Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., the chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, had no qualms about personally kicking out Issa, the former House Oversight Committee chairman.

"I'm a prosecutor, we always follow the rules," Gowdy later told NBC News. "[Issa] is not a [Benghazi] committee member and non-committee members are not allowed in the room during the deposition. Those are the rules and we have to follow them, no exceptions made."

The moment just after Issa was booted from the room was also caught on camera. Gowdy threw his hands up as Issa, R-Calif., stormed off.

...he should be booted out.

Every last one of these Congress critters should be booted out. The only way to change the current system is to bring in a whole new group who are not savvy about working the system.

You can’t get into the system unless you’re savvy about working the system. By definition. That’s why the system was created.

We live in an oligarchy — a cabal of powerful political-economic interests versus all the rest of us suckers — which allows enough “elections” to give us the delusion of “representative democracy.”

What has the GOP-controlled congress done since January? Advance the Obama agenda. That secret, have-to-pass-it-to-see-what’s-in-it trade bill under lock and key in the bowels of the Capitol, was put there by a Republican. Why?

It’s not Democrat vs Republican. It’s State vs citizen. No matter whom we elect, Fedzilla always gets bigger, while states and localities lose more and more power — a consistent pattern ever since 1789. Even under Reagan!

The Tree of Liberty is thirsty.

I liked Issa too, at first. But I have been around lawyers enough to know that cross examination, the posing of carefully crafted questions to get someone to reveal a specific narrative of affairs, is a very specific skill. Not all lawyers are litigators, eg; courtroom operators. Most, I would say, review and or craft contracts. Maybe I should say that very few lawyers are *good* litigators.

Issa damaged the early versions of these investigations by asking questions that were not leading enough and they provided the questionee the opportunity to generate two (or more) equally plausible answers. He really did. I spoke with a couple of lawyers I deal with and they independently posited the same thing. You allow a witness to generate a duality once, twice, three times, and now you have eight possible variations of the story.

Gowdy will not do this. Gowdy is superb.

I always thought he actually accomplished nothing with those investigations.

There was lots of tough talk, yes. Lots of tough interviews, yes.

Changes? Never seemed like it.

The congressmen don’t ask questions anyway. They waste the time and their supposed questions are lengthy speeches. It’s really a shame.

Gowdy’s ball is where he wants it. It’s just that you aren’t going to see it until closer to 2016 election day, or afterward.

Gowdy saying that only a million times, somehow went over your head, I guess. Too bad. No wonder you don’t get it. Sorry about that.

Yes, I get what you’re saying. At the time, though, for us lay people, Issa was the only thing going, the only push back in sight anywhere. It may have made him look better than he really was. Especially, as you say, in cross examinations.

Gowdy is superb! So much so it’s kind of startling!

Issa is in panic mode trying to protect Obama and Hillary. He had Lerner’s butt nailed to the wall and let her get up and walk out. He’s a fraud and Obama has the dirt on him.

Are you for real? The revelation of the truth, and the administration of justice, are not ends in and of themselves? They must be agenda-driven, tied to some arbitrary (read: self-serving) political time table?

Just to give some context to how this “investigation” has been pursued —

Watergate break-in...June 17, 1972
Nixon resignation.....August 9, 1974
Time elapsed..............Two years, two months
Result.......................President resigned

Benghazi attack.......September 11, 2012
Today’s date..............June 17, 2015
Time elapsed.............Two years, nine months
Result.......................Squat

I like him because he has said from the beginning that expectations are low that while under this president and this Justice Department that the Benghazi events will ever be resolved.

Once upon a time, Richard Nixon was president, and the Justice Department was controlled by him. And a Democrat congress didn't settle for "low expectations." And the Democrat House impeached the president and forced his resignation before the Senate could convict.

Sure, the GOP has controlled the Senate only since this January. (Although given what McConnell's done so far this year, that fact is debatable.) But Boner's had the House since 2011; and, as the Democrats showed during Watergate, you do *not* need the Justice Department to uncover a cover-up.

Boner et al are either complicit, incompetent, or stringing this out to coincide with the next election cycle. And frankly, in a constitutional republic, where the rule of law should be supreme, any one of those possibilities is *unacceptable*! There is absolutely no excuse why we, the American people -- and most of all, the families of our four fallen heroes -- have still not learned the truth of what happened on that night!

“What’s Issa trying to pull?”

Trying to figure that out as well. Is Gowdy MAYBE actually making headway on the IRS scandle that Issa told his overlords that he would burry?

And the media was and still is controlled by the liberals.

Without the megaphone and the drum beating, the low info snook, walking around playing with his/her phone doesn't even know the difference between Ben Hur and Ben Gazi.

That comparison of timelines is deeply flawed. The Watergate break-in happened in Washington, D.C., and was a badly botched criminal act, easily caught and investigated by local police. Benghazi took place in a foreign, third world country in meltdown after Ghaddafi was deposed and killed. We had very little support for investigating the event and, because all the key personnel were state department or defense employees, could only investigate them through Congress for events on foreign soil.

Also, nothing got done under Issa and Gowdy’s committee was only created in May, 2014. Gowdy has only been at it for 12 months.

The Republicans in 1973-74 were nothing like the Democrats of 2012-15. They acted with a modicum of integrity and loyalty to the Constitution. Today’s Dems wipe their butts with the Constitution and act only in the interest of power.

The media, already overwhelmingly liberal, hated Nixon with a purple passion and hyped the story EVERY SINGLE DAY as the greatest threat to the Constitution since the founding. Today’s media, more liberal than ever, buries the story and closes ranks around Hussein and Hitlary.

And the media was and still is controlled by the liberals.

What does that have to do with the House of Representatives pursuing aggressively and getting to the truth promptly? Do you refuse to do your job unless a reporter features you on the 10pm local news? And, if as we all suspect, the dereliction went right up to the White House, the Reps can impeach.

And there is only so much the liberal media can cover up. The day the House impeached Bill Clinton, I heard it on the radio, driving on some God-forsaken, in-the-middle-of-absolutely-freaking-nowhere, Deliverance-movie stretch of West Virginia, frantically scanning the spectrum for anything other than the three lamest country music stations you ever heard in your life, which were all I could pick up during the previous hour, with a county sheriff tailing my ass because I was probably the only out-of-stater who ever mistakenly entered that surreal (in a very bad way) county since the founding of the Republic.

Screw the media. Integrity is what people do when nobody is looking.
