It’s the church of black racist agitators. Doesn’t justify killing them, of course, but it is the church of “blame it all on whitey.” Maybe he heard something in his hour of participation that cemented his decision.
They would be less likely to shoot back. That would not be a small consideration for someone planning his first and likely only killing, and wishes it to be successful and memorable.
