South Carolina shooting: What we know about suspect Dylann Storm Roof, 21 [Psych Drugs]

A federal law enforcement source has identified the man suspected of killing nine people inside a historic black church on Wednesday evening as 21-year-old Dylann Storm Roof. He was captured Thursday morning in Shelby, N.C.

....Since January, Roof has been arrested twice, both at the Columbiana Mall in Columbia, S.C. According to arrest records obtained CBS News investigative producer Laura Strickler, on February 28, Roof went into a Bath and Body Works store wearing all black and asked "out of the ordinary questions," including how many associates were working, when they closed and what time they leave. Mall employees complained and when an officer approached him Roof said "his parents were pressuring him to get a job." The officer noted that Roof was becoming increasingly nervous. He searched Roof and found "orange strips" that Roof said were "suboxone," a Schedule 3 narcotic. Roof was arrested and his 2000 Hyundai Elantra was towed.

I worked on cell tower sites. Found them in a given search area, got property owners to sign leases, etc.

Met some great people.

Forest Avenue, St. John’s University, a church in Drumgoole, Tottenville, Goethals Bridge area, etc—I enjoyed it.

Lived down the Jersey Shore for many years—hence my nick—for Exit 82 on the Garden State Parkway.

Live in rural southern DE now. I’m a city boy among all the farm folks.

Here’s the thing...how many mentally ill people are there in this country? Millions, I’m guessing, perhaps as many as 1 in 5, or 1 in 4 according to some articles:

I really think that we need to bring back mental institutions.

No.

Those are all good areas.

The three best summers of my life were the shore houses at Belmar. 25 plus years ago.

Of course I’ve been to seaside a bunch of times too when I was in my late teens.

You’re probably a big shot out there :)

We know that Obama and his followers should not be surprised that they have unleashed the crazies with their racist refusal to say anything about blacks murdering everyone in sight but bashing every cop and other person who offends them even in the slightest manner. The race war we all knew would eventually happen took a giant step to reality yesterday. Thanks Obama, Al, Jesse and both AGs.

LOL! No, no big shot!

When I got the assignment to do those SI projects, at first I was like, who wants to go there?

Once I got to know my way around, I really enjoyed it.

The view of the Verranzano Narrows and the bridge from the road in front of St. John’s is breathtaking.

Belmar is still a beach party town.

Raised my family in Toms River—still a great family town—close to Barnegat Bay, the Toms River and the ocean.

Went to Seaside Heights for the boardwalk, but loved the beaches at Ortley Beach, Lavallette and Island Beach State Park. They are still rebuilding from Sandy.

Glad to hear that your time on FR is helpful. It is a great source for knowledge— name a topic, and someone here is an expert.

Although you have gone through a tough time, you seem like the kind of person who will persevere and overcome it.

Toms River is really nice. Not familiar with the other beaches. Sandy was a nightmare. Though high on a hill, I was driving a cab for a few extra bucks and saw the devastation. I know NJ got rocked too. And then a fire at one of the beach boardwalks for goodness sakes!!

Eh, I look at it this way. I didn’t die and I wont kill myself so I have to make the best of it :)

Instead of his name how about calling him Bowl cut? If this were not a family friendly site there are any number of names I could call him.

IMO Here is how it should work. You go into a church (or any building) kill 9 people, you become a non-person. Actually if were up to me you’d get a quick trial and a fine hanging,

Although I cannot think of obvious remedies with respect to dealing with people like Mr. Roof in our culture, he seems to be a good example of the consequences of PC tolerance, a socially “acceptable” loose canon.

Many of these are minor illnesses and don’t cause aberrant behavior. But many are serious and some of these belong in mental institutions for their own good and certainly for the public good. But the psychiatrist associations stand four square against so-called warehousing these people. I think the need is urgent.

I’m sure you are being snarky but really??.... Some freaken, psychotic, kid who’s daddy thinks it is okay to hand a .45 to as a gift... a kid who was arrested twice that year, kicked out of a mall for threatening employees.... Yeah.
Dad of the year right there. Trust me, his dad was not protecting him from Obama. That was the last thing on that morons mind. Just stupidity.
