With the U.S. Supreme Court expected to rule next week on King v. Burwell, two Florida Republicans promoted alternatives to President Barack Obamas federal health-care law this week.
US. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., introduced the Free Market Health-care Restoration and Coverage Act of 2015 on Thursday which repeals Obamas heath-care law while keeping subsidies until 2017.
"With the King v. Burwell ruling quickly approaching, I introduced legislation that would allow my constituents and Americans across the country to keep their premiums while House Republicans work on a real and permanent solution," Diaz-Balart said.

Several simple fixes: First end the mandate, but provide individuals and businesses with a tax credits for having health insurance. Second, end the federal minimum requirements for insurance policies and allow consumers the choice in what kind of coverage they want to purchase. Third, end the federal ban on writing health insurance policies across state lines. Lastly create a risk pool to assist those with preexisting conditions.
And what would you calculate the odds of the Republicans all agreeing on such a plan, much less any Democrats signing on, to be?
Don’t worry, the SCOUS will vote in favor of Husain. They won’t want to be accused of taking away anyone “subsidies”.
That would work very well! Later work on “loser pays” or “frivolous litigation” type of tort reform.
I hope this is all political rhetoric and the republicans will drop the discussion once a large chunk of Obamacare is ruled unconstitutional. I wish I could trust our elected officials to fight for small government.
