The Cardinal couldn't have been more polite, but it didn't take much reading between the lines to get what he was asserting: that when it comes to the encyclical on the environment, Rush Limbaugh doesn't understand what the Pope was saying.
On today's Fox News Sunday, Chris Wallace played a clip of Rush saying that the encyclical "is suggesting is that everyone should vote for the Democrat party. How in the hell else do you interpret it when the Pope sounds like Al Gore on global warming and climate change?" Responded Cardinal Donald Wuerl: "one of the great blessings of America" is that "we're all allowed to speak our mind even if we don't have all the facts. Even if we don't have a clear view of what the other person is saying."

Plus the let’s break bread argument doesn’t work when it’s clear that the pope has already taken a side. I don’t know why this guy thinks we should believe his claim that the encyclical is just a neutral request for discussion.
The cardinals in America are for income redistribution, gun grabbing, and open borders / amnesty.
I’ll trust Rush before I’ll trust any of these cardinal leftists, and that goes double for the pope.
Knowing there are a lot of conservative Catholics the church has to be getting some push back from the congregation.
Welcome to the reality of Catholic politics Rush.
I have been trying to show them for long time.
CS Lewis called these types out over sixty years ago as “men without chests.” There certainly are many Catholics who are consensus lemmings and will follow which ever direction the mob is moving. They by and large however, are not practicing Catholics IMO.
I share the opinion expressed by many here on FR that the encyclical amounts to a moral white flag. Having lost so many souls to the predominant culture of moral relativism, there is a hope I believe, in suggesting that recycling your soda can is an opportunity for sanctifying grace, may give some lost souls a taste for the good.
I thought I was watching a gay priest from the Episcopal Church of England! What a lugubrious bore!
Me too.
Where’s this damned table? Libs are constantly talking about this table but nobody tells me where it is.
Cardinal doesn’t sound like he read the document himself.
The document is a teaching document by the Pope, it isn’t a “lets have a conversation about this” document.
But thanks to Chris Wallace, the Cardinal didn’t have the facts on all that Rush said, which he said very well, and in proper context. Wallace is a snake. Too many leaders of the Catholic Church are statists.
The science behind AGW has been debunked. It’s proponents have been caught committing fraud. It’s proponents have admitted committing fraud. The AGW model predictions have been inaccurate at predicting satellite temperature trends. And yet with all those facts standing against it, the Pope still believes the AGW theory. No wonder he is also a proponent of socialism.
“we’re all allowed to speak our mind even if we don’t have all the facts. Even if we don’t have a clear view of what the other person is saying.”
That is exactly what the Pope is doing. Deniers are not deniers, they are realists calling the left’s bluff. Also, where is the narrative that the Pope also condemned abortion and made it integral to the climate change theory? We are not hearing much on that.
What happened to Global Warming? Suddenly, when it didn’t stand up to reality, it became “Climate Change”.
I am a conservative Catholic and I have a question for the Pope.
Do you believe God would create the Earth to be so fragile that burning carbon fuels would permanently damage it?
Everything God created is a cycle, this is no different.
It has been much warmer and cooler without man driving cars.
“muddy the waters” like all good leftists.
That table is right next to the skittles pooping unicorn and that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The Pope cancelled a meeting with a AGW critic. There was no place for him at the table.
LOL. Not everybody is invited to sit at the table.
I do see a ray of hope in the fact that the Cardinal suggests that a “discussion” will occur. Having read the encyclical however, Francis seems to suggest that the time for exchange is over.
Or Obama and friends may be blackmailing him.
Translation: The Catholic Church is heavily invested in the “global warming” industry, and stands to lose billions if the rubes don’t buy the scam.
You bring up a good point.
The encyclical was amazingly empty of the joy of faith.
“Pile of filth” is just not a term you expect to come across in an encyclical.
As a non-Catholic I've always lovingly embraced the Church for its mostly unwavering stands against the evils of the world and totalitarian marxism in any form.
Now, I'm sickened by what I hear from this Pope....social justice, marxism and embracing/condoning/excusing/softening various forms of cultural, sexual and marital deviations.
I'm praying for this Pope and his flock....but I'm not too optomistic. I'm afraid he is hard-core.
Throughout the centuries, generations of Catholics have been conditioned to passively accept dictates from the top down....now they must start push-back from the bottom up....starting in their parishes.
We did it in my denomination years ago when leftist theologians started a take-over push by trying to co-opt and infiltrate our main seminary, its professors and its traditional biblical teachings. Congregations across the country rallied and stopped them in their tracks. They still try, and will always try, of course, but we're always vigilant.
"If the Lord be with us, who can be against us?" (Psalms 118)
