Take Andrew Jackson off the $20 bill
MSNBC ^ | June 21, 2015 | Mary Kathryn Nagle

I hate using ATMs. It’s not the lines that bother me, nor is it the inevitable awkwardness of the person lurking behind you, seemingly in a rush and looking over your shoulder as you type. No, I hate ATMs because I know when I swipe my card, when the machine dispenses pieces of my livelihood, I have to see that face. His face. On the $20 bill.

When historian David Greenberg thinks of Andrew Jackson, he thinks of democracy. When I see Andrew Jackson, I think of my grandmother’s spit.

* * *

The trip was long. And for an eleven-year-old, somewhat painful. Wedged in the backseat between my younger sisters and their respective mountains of Barbies, the eight hour drive felt like an insufferable eternity.

Girls, my father’s voice would boom every time our incessant complaining crossed his fatherly-defined threshold: Quiet. We are going to visit the grave of a president.

When we finally arrived, I jumped out of our minivan and began exploring. But when I caught a glimpse of my grandma, my legs came to a standstill.

I watched as my grandma walked straight to the president’s grave. She stood for half a second, then her neck arched back, her body heaved forward, and for the first time in my life, I saw my grandma spit. It wasn’t a casual spit. It was a once in a lifetime spit. I watched as the saliva of our ancestors flowed through her mouth and hit that grave with an echo that turned heads and stopped conversations.

She turned and walked straight back to the minivan. Let’s go. And so we left....

Lady Liberty should adorn any replacement of Jackson. I have long detested this “hero” of New Orleans! Jean Lafitte was the reason Jackson won the battle, just as a Cherokee warrior saved Jackson’s life when he was attacked by a Creek in the Creek wars. Regardless of the FACT that his life had been saved by a Cherokee and that he owed that victory to the Cherokees, he bowed to the demands of land hungry GOLD HUNGRY white men who demanded the Cherokees be pushed off their land. This was after GOLD was discovered in Georgia. So the Cherokees moved to the Carolinas which wasn’t good enough. They were rounded up and moved to Oklahoma, but some resisted and went “Unto These Hills.”
The Cherokee were a highly developed tribe, head of the Cherokee Nation. They had a system of government which I shall not attempt to describe here, but would suggest to those who prefer snarky comments against them. You should do a little research before taking such an unintelligent stand.
This leftist attack on Jackson has nothing to do with my opinion. I used to lecture on certain tribes with which I was familiar. One of my dearest friends and I have argued about Jackson for years. My mind will never change. He is not an American Hero IMHO.

Interesting ..?? But, since the Left has no clue about history .. they may not know any of that information.

You’re right .. Hamilton sounds like a true Liberal.

"Andrew Jackson, considered to be the father of he Democratic Party invented the “spoils system”, that turned the United States Government into a big candy machine for those who could wheedle their way into power."

Add to that his open defiance of the Court in a clearly righteou8s ruling, and his persecution of the civilized tribes of America, and the man was truly a scoundrel.

No matter his grand performance in NO.

Libs always speak like that to assert their propaganda.

And I don’t see you attacking Democrats, frankly. Perhaps because of Andrew Jackson?

Sounds like one who favored the “imperial presidency”.

A twenty dollar gold piece at today’s gold price would be a tiny wafer indeed!

Hmmmm ..?? I think you’re reading somebody else’s posts .. because I’m so far from Liberal .. but that’s okay .. I don’t really care what your opinion is of me.

This conversation is over .. you’re too uninformed for me.

Some of the descendents of the tribal members removed think of Jackson in similar to the way Jews think of Hitler.

Who could blame them?

Andrew Jackson, the last president to pay off the national debt. I like having him on my currency. He also acted to keep the international banking cabal out of the U.S. until the FED was finally let in in 1913.

He is one of the great presidents.

Jackson was correct. Indian cultures were stone-age in all senses of the word. They would, and did, disappear in the face of modernity. The 19th Century did not have the quant, late 20th century idea that cultures must (or even could be) preserved in amber, like museum artifacts.
................................................
Obviously you have ZERO knowledge of the American Indian Cultures AND of their influences on our own system of government!

YES there were many different Native cultures just as there were different physical characteristics among the various tribes. The Cherokee were a SUPERIOR culture and should be studied, not denigrated!

Hamilton was Secretary of the Treasury at a time when the Secretary of the Treasury was the premier cabinet position. His program of the Federal Government assuming the individual states’ debts from the Revolutionary War prevented the southern slave states from economically dominating the United States for the first half of the nineteenth century. Jefferson’s Democratic-Republican party arose as a result of opposition to that policy.

And I demand everything named after a Kennedy, JFK Airport, Kennedy Ctr for the Perf. Atrs, Kennedy Drive in Tampa, the RKF (formerly the Triboro) Bridge, etc. be renamed because papa Joe Kennedy was a bootlegging nazi-sympathizing Jew hater.

These people hate all the country’s founding fathers. If they get rid of Jackson they’ll start on the others.

To help this poor woman from being being traumatized, I'll volunteer to accept all of her $20 bills and any other denominations that may offend her.

Personally, I'd like to see Ronald Reagan on the $20 bill to really torment the liberals.

Although President Jackson was in the Revolutionary War as a young man, he isn’t considered a founding father.
