A source close to the situation says Gov. Nikki Haley is formulating a plan with State House leaders to remove the Confederate flag from the State House grounds.

Details are limited, but Haley is holding a news conference on Monday at 4 p.m., according to a release from the governor's office.

The governor's office stopped short of saying the reasons for the news conference.

South Carolina House Speaker Jay Lucas has already called for "swift resolution" on the Confederate flag issue.

Good for her. The only sane thing to do. When a symbol exists as a rallying point for terrorists, then regardless of its other meanings, that one meaning has to take precedence.

I couldn’t disagree more. IT’S HISTORY WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HERE. YOU WANT TO REVISE HISTORY? Do you support ISIS’ destruction of history too?

Slavery was practiced far longer under the Stars & Stripes than under the Stars & Bars. But you already knew that, right?

That’s a bit too broad of a reason, however - the flag was put there in the 1960s and given the events of the time it probably was not for so-called “heritage.” So, Democrats put it up there as a symbol of division, and Republicans will be taking it down.

Taking a piece of cloth down solves problems?

Does this mean I can stop wearing a particular shirt and my wife and I will never argue again?

Amazing!

Why do they keep capitulating to the ignorant minorities?

I think some education would help. Oh! Excuse me, the protestors are not educable.

Push, push, push. The radical activists are always gaining ground, but never have to cede any. This shooting had absolutely nothing to do with this, but they bring up an unrelated debate and push, push, push. I think this was caused by the rising cost of healthcare under Obama...we need to repeal Obamacare to honor those affected. Equally related issue,

So should we prepare for when the President calls for taking down the U.S. Flag from the Capitol after some deranged individual takes pictures of themselves with the U.S. Flag and guns and does something as heinous?

It wasn't put there until the 1960s - doubtful for "historical" reasons given the events of the time.

At least she is accountable to the people of SC, as should be the case in issues like this, not some judge with a lifetime appointment.

Democrats put it up there as a symbol of division, and Republicans will be taking it down.

That's the narrative that needs to be repeated.

I heard it was put up to mark the 100th anniversary of the Civil War, and was only supposed to last a year, or that was the story they told themselves.

So, Democrats put it up there as a symbol of division, and Republicans will be taking it down.

And a Republican Governor took it down, which promptly got him booted out of office and replaced by a Democrat who put it back up.
