GETTYSBURG (Reuters) - The U.S. National Park Service began removing Confederate flag merchandise from its bookstores and gift shops on Thursday, joining a nationwide push by lawmakers and retailers to remove the emblem, long associated with the fight to preserve slavery.
Kathy Kupper, a national parks spokeswoman, said she doesn't know how many parks had previously sold Confederate flag merchandise, but about 70 of the organization's 407 parks are related to the American Civil War.
“We strive to tell the complete story of America,” National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis said in a press release. “Any stand-alone depictions of Confederate flags have no place in park stores.”

They could move it to Shiloh NMP. Where General Forrest is currently buried is too dangerous because of the great numbers affirmative action voters.
Go to the Yorktown, VA battlefield. The flags of the three major powers, France, Great Britian, and the USA are all displayed. Removing the Confederate flag from Gettysburg is as insane as removing one of those flags would be.
Let us not forget that in the last government shutdown, the National Park Service shutdown public highways near Mount Rushmore and attempted to close down a private concessionaire on the Blue Ridge Parkway (I’ve forgotten whether the NPS was successful). It closed down the World War II memorial in Washington.
All of these actions were taken to make the government shutdown as painful as possible to provoke a reaction against the opponents of the Administration.
The NPS is acting in partisan ways. I had hoped that the NPS would be non-partisan.
And darn it, I like my national parks - I visit the Shiloh National Military Park twice a year (approximately an 11-1/2 one-way drive for me) and the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park roughly once a year (not quite as long a drive) and will go the Grand Canyon at the drop of a hat (said hat unfortunately hasn’t dropped for many years). I suspect that next time I visit Shiloh, I’ll have to give it a nasty scowl as I enter. I also suspect that battle flags will be back on sale when next I visit in November (assuming that they have been removed).

Probably put those crowd panels/gates up, and post Park Service cops to keep people from getting within spittin’ distance. I kid - I hope.
Perhaps to the Chickamauga National Military Park. Forrest’s role at Shiloh was pretty minor (and his exploits at Fallen Timbers probably exaggerated) while at Chickamauga he commanded at cavalry corps, although not particularly well - seems at times to have thought that he was still commanding a cavalry brigade rather than a corps.
I used to visit Gettysburg 2-3 times a year, then head down to Antietam. I always preferred visiting the parks during the winter when the tourists weren't around. One of my most enjoyable visits was to Shiloh. It was early December, and I had the whole park practically to myself. The weather was sunny, and it was warm enough to not need a jacket.
Then you think the Vietnam memorial in DC is also celebrating failure?
The next re-enactment at Gettysburg will feature a ‘neutral’ version of the Army of Northern Virginia’s flag.

So today I called the DC main office of the N. Park Service - had to leave voice mail. Called my Senators too - yes, I know, but I cover all bases just in case it helps even a little. I called the Mayor in Gettysburg. I called the Gettysburg Foundation which is apparently an arm of the National Park Service. And I made one other call which I can’t remember the recipient of, and got sent to the marketing directors voice mail.
I told every one of them that our visits to Gettysburg are at an end. No more stays in B&Bs, no more dollars to restaurants or shops. I said a lot of other things that do not need to be repeated here. I stayed calm, and on topic, but passionate about the dismantling of our history.
Yawn... Whatever.

Not for long probably...Autoworld started selling the general lee HO slot car without the flag recently although you can still get them on ebay (for now) but the prices have already doubled...
I also noticed a guy is selling the general lee decals in 1/64 so you can put the flag back on...lol
Only a matter of time till some asshat complains though...
