FLASHBACK--Q&A With Judge Robert Bork: Moral Life of Nation Could be Decided by One Judge

[Editor's Note: In this interview with CNSNews.com in 2009, Judge Robert Bork warned that just "one judge"--Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy--effectively had the power to decide "the moral life of the nation.” Bork made the assertion after warning: "But we are going to see in the near future a terrible conflict between claimed rights of homosexuals and religious freedom. You are going to get Catholic hospitals that are going to be required as a matter of law to perform abortions. You are going to get Catholic or other groups’ relief services that are going to be required to allow adoption of a child by homosexual couples. We are going to have a real conflict that goes right to the heart of the society.”]

(CNSNews.com) - “Now, it’s a funny situation in which the moral life of a nation is in effect decided by one judge, because you have four solid liberal votes, four solid originalist votes, and one vote you can’t predict too accurately in advance,” said Judge Robert Bork, reflecting on the balance of the U.S. Supreme Court, in an interview with CNSNews.com.

Bork was pondering what the outcome might be if the court at some future point were to answer the question of whether the government has the constitutional authority to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions.

He was a great man who was robbed of his rightful place on the court. Once again the left cheated and we are left with the disaster that resulted.

Very good, but like all humans not perfect (lukewarm on 2nd amendment).

Anyhow, we can’t drive looking in that rearview mirror. We have to go forward, our hand in God’s hand.

The real issue as I see it, is the one of free will.

Being free to recognize on my own that I messed up.

Being free to accept Jesus because at the end of the day and after exploring any number of alternatives, Jesus stands alone.

Not being told either way.

The only logical conclusion for someone that takes the time to ask the right questions.

Our modern world has provided soo many outs for soo many people. Soo many people that no longer think for themselves, no longer find the time or desire to seek truth.

Bork, Tower, Thomas....Perfect examples of the fierceness and take-no-prisoners policy of the left. I literally hate them and all they represent, but I do admire, and fear, their commitment.

He died in 2012 so King Hussein-Obama would have appointed his replacement.

Now that health care is a shared cost, we need to discourage homosexuality just as we do other high risk lifestyles.

It is foolishness to not look in the rearview mirror. We must learn from the past. Isn’t Christianity just as much looking back to the Cross as it is looking forward?

I have had the great honor to meet the late great Judge Bork. Now I have attended thousands of lectures and speeches in my life. The best lecture in mathematics I ever attended was given by Dr. Gilbert Strange of MIT. The most entertaining speech I attended was by G. Gordan Liddy of Watergate fame. However, Judge Bork's lecture on the constitution was brilliant. He made me realize how truly niece I was about law and the constitution. What made his speech so great was it's logical construction.
