I don’t know if the display necessarily implies foreknowledge of the court’s ruling. They knew months ahead that there would be a ruling. I can see them doing this even if the ruling had gone against them—just to show support. It certainly was an ‘in your face’ thing to do the the majority of the country that doesn’t get all warm and fuzzy when they see the rainbow flag.
It looks like Thomas hinted this. I think he really wanted it to be less of a shock.

One could calmly point out in appropriate venues that even the symbolism is a lie. I believe the original use was to show that by embracing all the colors, that it was supposed to be about “inclusiveness.” But if you believe there’s no valid way to please God by doing that, then bye bye inclusiveness for you. It is totalitarianism. You don’t even merit being a color.

I agree, however this is an opportunity to galvanize conservatives and religious people and beat back the agents of Satan.
