Ted Cruz: ‘Voters Would Be Astonished’ To Know What GOP Senators Say And Do In Private

In the introduction to this book, Cruz specifically criticizes the Republican leadership in the Senate for how they dealt with the issue of raising the debt ceiling in early 2014.

“For months leading up to this moment, Republican leaders had pledged to their constituents that when it came time to raise the federal debt limit, they would demand meaningful spending reforms from this president,” Cruz wrote. “Rest assured, we were told, the Republicans would insist on it!”

But that wasn’t going to work, so the GOP leadership came up with another idea.

“For decades, the ordinary procedure in the Senate has been that in order to move to proceed to take up a debt ceiling increase, 60 senators must vote in favor of the motion,” he said.

Cruz said the leadership asked senators to agree to a 50-vote threshold for the debt ceiling legislation.

The GOP leadership, Cruz writes, wanted Republicans to agree to this so “Democrats would then have the votes to raise the debt ceiling on their own. We could all vote no. This way, we could return home and tell the voters that we had opposed raising the debt ceiling, right after consenting to let it happen.”

“Most senators seemed perfectly fine with the leadership’s proposal,” Cruz writes. “There were nods and murmurs of assent.”

Cruz said that for him, it “was too much.”

“I raised my hand and said, ‘There’s no universe in which I can consent to that.’”

THIS is how republicans maintain their artificially high conservative ratings, through tricks like this, and cloture, etc., and all to hoodwink their voters.

I remember this vote. McConnell and Cornyn were FORCED to vote AYE because nobody else would give them cover.

For this was early last year, and their primaries were coming up, you see.

Nope. Nothing elected officials do would surprise most of us.

Shouldn’t he wait until after he is elected to burn all of his bridges?

Everyone can point fingers at c*cksuckers like McConnell, Cornyn, etc etc etc etc. I guess all but about 3 or 4 Senators and Rubio isn’t one of those 3 or 4. However, all of the blame rests solely on the shoulders of the voters, pure and simple.

Given what has taken place, I’m thinking that no one in the state of Kentucky should ever be allowed to vote, EVER. If McConnell is the person that they continue to send, F*CK them. Same goes for what ever district that scumbag, Boehner is from. None of those people should be allowed to vote. I can go on and on with the likes of McCain, Flake, etc etc etc.

I realize that I’m painting with a GINORMOUS brush, but if the people of those states cannot see what they send to DC to REPRESENT them and what failures, liars and manipulators they are then they’re truly dumber than dirt. I use McConnell as the perfect example. How can anyone say publicly that working with obama on anything is an outerbody experience. The man is dumber than dirt. He is a liar that has no equal. He has never put in any work whatsoever. All he does is issue an edict and head to the first tee. TPP/TPA has, according to reports, been in the works for 10 years. Meaning that it started under Bush, if my math is correct. That whole bundle of b*llshit would have been throw at us no matter who’s in the WH. Obama didn’t have anything to do with it, except for coercing, bribing, threatening people to vote for it. And if that is what McConnell considers to be and outerbody experience, then the people of Kentucky should have just voted for Grimes. They would have got the same result. Only we wouldn’t have to see or hear that nasty turkey necked, c*cksucker anymore.

It’s not what they do in private that shocks me—it’s what they do and say in public.

I agree. I said pretty much the same thing for over two years, but was continually berated here on FR.

I would wish that I were a fly on the wall, inside the republican rooms when they discuss how they will screw the voters that were stupid enough to vote for them. Let’s face it, these are all “SHAMELESS WHORES”, who think their only job is to screw the American public, and pad their selfish pockets.

Which is why we are where we’re at. I’d love to go to Boehners district and ask all of his voters what he’s done for them. I’d love them to name one legitimate thing. And I”m not talking about getting some rec center built. I want to ask them about their taxes, their schools, their quality of life. They won’t have an answer, but like the sheep they’ve allowed themselves to become, they’ll show up every two years and pull the lever for that scumbag.

I'm not so sure about that. Lately, I've begun to be very cynical about all politicians.

And tell them that they could have gotten that rec center sooner if their taxes didn't have to go to Washington first, only to come back as an earmark for a rec center with strings attached.

NEVER FORGET that a majority of Republican Senate and House members voted for the current leadership, KNOWING what they were.

Looked for the live thread but couldn’t find it.
Anyway, I remember it was also a SILENT vote at Mitch’s request.
