How did that work out? Kosovo was handed over. Serbia had no say. Serbia was bombed by NATO. No one defended them. It was a humanitarian nightmare. And Serbia was made the bad guy. If that’s what they did for their Slavic brothers, it will be a lot less for Greece.

WW-III began June 25, 1950. We lost almost 100,000 KIA in that one. It was NOT cold.

Just a smokescreen so he can attack the Kurds.

Meanwhile, ISIL has just been a little bit unbolstered.

Oh yeah, they’re going to collapse at any time. ;’)

ISIS relies on atrocities to instill terror, and against Iraqi armed forces it has worked like a charm. What’s left of the Syrian army apparently hasn’t engaged ISIS successfully — ISIS has arrived in overwhelming numbers, rounded up everyone in uniform, and executed them. Other jihadist groups like the Hizzies, al-Qaeda, and perhaps the slightly resurgent (but geographically restricted) Taliban, fight with similar tactics and match up pretty well. They are also similarly motivated.

Against the Kurds, ISIS hasn’t done very well at all.

And in Syria, Assad has in effect joined forces with ISIS against the dozens-to-hundreds longterm local rebel groups; I’d be very surprised if, after the smoke clears, Assad hasn’t been sharing select intel with ISIS to help them destroy rivals.

The only place the Hizzies and ISIS have clashed has been in western Syria/eastern Lebanon, an area needed to maintain communication and supply lines for the Iranian proxies.

This is good news for the Kurds. The fact that Kurdistan isn’t an independent state is one of modern history’s greatest fails; the Kurds love America a million times more than our current pResident - an admittedly easy task, but still...

They would have been invaluable in a conflict with the Soviets.

Or does no one fear the United States anymore?

In the modern era, the only person who fears the US military is Barack Obama.

NATO is pretty much a dead issue now, but if you look at a map from the days of the Cold War it is obvious why Turkey was brought into NATO.

Turkey helped to keep Russia bottled up in the Black Sea.
